One year ago yesterday was, without exaggeration, one of the absolute best days of Rylan’s life — and one of the best days of mine and Kate’s too.

Because of everything Rylan has been through, we haven’t always been able to give him the big experiences other kids get to have. But music reaches him in a way very few things can, and for Rylan, that music is TURNSTILE.

He’s listened to them through brain surgeries, hospital stays, cancer and chemotherapy. He would chill and watch the GLOW ON album release show on YouTube over and over. Everyone on the oncology floor at CHOP basically knows who Turnstile is because of Rylan.

On December 26, 2023, I was in the back of an ambulance genuinely believing I might be saying goodbye to my son forever. I just kept telling him, “Daddy loves you so much, Rylan,” over and over while playing his favorite Turnstile songs, hoping he could hear my voice and the music that brought him comfort.

Thankfully, Rylan fought his way back. Then months later, he had to fight cancer too.

One year ago yesterday, Turnstile invited us to their Philadelphia show and soundcheck. Somehow I went from playing NO SURPRISE for Rylan in an ambulance, wondering if I was losing him, to standing there watching Franz sing his favorite song directly to him.

Full circle in the most beautiful way.

Meg, Pat, Brendan, Franz and Daniel were all incredibly kind, and so were @sugenasty , Brandon, Brian, Grace, Casey, Mr. Bill and everyone around them.

The icing on the cake was holding Rylan on side stage, jumping up and down jamming to BIRDS together — then after the set, Brendan walked right over, put his head against Rylan’s and said, “Rylan, Did you enjoy the show? We love you buddy”

They didn’t just give him a cool experience. They helped turn a city filled with memories of surgeries, cancer, fear and pain into the place where our family had one of the happiest days of our lives.

For one day, Rylan wasn’t a patient. He was just a kid seeing his favorite band.

As his dad, I’ll be grateful for that day for the rest of my life. ❤️

Thank you, TURNSTILE. Forever.

Hoy nos vestimos de gala, porque NEVER ENOUGH cumple un año de existencia. 🩵

Siendo el cuarto álbum de estudio, y el primero en presentar a Meg Mills como guitarrista oficial, NEVER ENOUGH es la respuesta a cuatro años de búsqueda, evolución y riesgo creativo constante sin miedo; donde el uso de elementos electrónicos, Ska y flautas de meditación parecieran haber encajado desde siempre con la rigidez del hardcore que nunca han dejado de abrazar.
