⭐️EMERGING STAR⭐️
Congratulations to @gracerosewalker for making the cover of @_thebookseller after winning the 2026 @newadultbookprize 🥳

⭐️ “I fell completely into The Merge. Pacy, clever and genuinely frightening, it takes on huge ideas about identity, autonomy and what we owe each other, while keeping intimate human relationships at its heart. I couldn’t stop thinking about it long after I’d finished. A hugely deserving winner.” — Josh Silver, author of Fruit Fly

She’s a cover girl! I am so excited for the unstoppable @gracerosewalker, debut author of The Merge and @_thebookseller certified emerging star ✨

“The Merge is an excellent novel, an expert balancing act between emotive and speculative elements, as well as human relationships and big ideas about the kind of future we may walk blindly into. Grace Walker’s writing moved me, but more importantly challenged me to think deeper about widening financial inequality, the environment and the lives which society values over others. I’m so happy that The Merge has won this year’s New Adult Book Prize.” - @nicoladinan

And just like that it’s a wrap on the @newadultbookprize 2026! I reckon 7 is my lucky number as this is the amount I finished from the shortlist this year as well as last year! 🤩📚✨

Congratulations to The Merge by Grace Walker for winning! I absolutely adored this one and haven’t read anything like it! Such a well deserved win! 👏🏾🥰

Would highly recommend everyone picking up the books by the other shortlisted authors as every single one of them was a great book:

It Might Never Happen by Emily Slapper
Swept Away by Beth O’Leary
The Tiny Things Are Heavier by Esther Ifesinachi Okonkwo
Hekate by Nikita Gill
Nearly Departed by Lucas Oakley
Sugartown by Caragh Maxwell

I still plan to dive into the last 3 books and I am sure they will be equally as amazing as the ones I’ve already read:

And Now Back to You by B.K.Borison
Among The Burning Flowers by Samantha Shannon
Dawn Of The Firebird by Sarah Mughal Rana

🏆CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNER OF THE 2026 NEW ADULT BOOK PRIZE @gracerosewalker🏆

Her “exceptional” novel THE MERGE first published in the UK with @oneworldpublications in November 2025, has won the 2026 @newadultbookprize 🥳

Described by the judges as “both frightening and absorbing”, “pacy and clever” and “an excellent novel” THE MERGE is a moving story of love, family and sacrifice exploring how far we’re willing to go to never say goodbye

We know it’s way too early to be talking about December, but we think you can excuse us this time! 🤭

We are delighted to be collaborating with The New Adult Book Prize for a second time to read the 2026 Winner, which is The Merge by @gracerosewalker!

Last year, it was the deepest honour to read Disappoint Me by Nicola Dinan for our December 2025 meeting, and we cannot wait to see what our 2026 read will be.

If you’d like to attend our next meeting for The Cocoa Bookclub, visit @redlionbooks DM The Cocoa Bookclub or email us@redlionbooks.co.uk for more information.

I’m thrilled to be appearing at the free panel, New Adult Book Prize for VOICEBOX at this year’s #CheltLitFest (9 - 18 October 2026). The full VOICEBOX programme is out now. Sunday 1:15pm is my panel at Cheltenham alongside @nikita_gill @say_shannon and @gracerosewalker to explore representations of power and resistance in the shortlisted novels, and how we can talk about the present through fantastical and dystopian worlds. The panel will be chaired by Katie Fraser. Signing is after. Please come out! Would love to see you :)
