CAFE.IO SCREENING IN ARIZONA, USA 🇺🇸 TODAY

@mesainternationalfilmfestival
Mesa Convention Center — Building B · Screen 1 @mesaconventioncenter
15 August 2026 · 1:10 PM MST

A few selected moments from behind the scenes of 'Cafe'.io' made into a film by Lottie Copland, accompanied by original music from the film composed by Dr. Thomas Jaermann.

As the absurdist crime drama screens today in Arizona, I’m thinking about all the people who gave their time, talent, and trust to this strange little film and helped bring its slightly strange world to life.

Very grateful to everyone who made it with me — in front of the camera and behind it. 🤍

And grateful to Mesa International Film Festival for selecting Cafe.io and giving the film a screen today.

A little glimpse of what went on behind the camera. 🎬

CAFE.IO SCREENING IN ARIZONA, USA

Mesa International Film Festival @mesainternationalfilmfestival
Mesa Convention Center – Building B · Screen 1
15 August 2026 · 1:10 PM MST

A small but very meaningful first: *Cafe'.io*’s first festival screening—and the first film I’ve directed to screen at a festival in the US.

It is also the second film I’ve written to reach the US festival screen, after *Angel Fleet*. A quiet marker of continuity that means a great deal to me.

The idea first came to me on a train from Paddington to Ealing Studios, while I was on my way to a directing class at MetFilm School. It began with a slightly absurd “what if?” and refused to leave me alone.

We shot the film—an absurd crime drama set in the urban tech world of London—in one very full day in 2024, and completed post-production in 2025.

A thought on a London train. A cast and crew who came together around its odd little world. Many hours in the edit. And now, a screen in Arizona.

I don’t want to make it bigger than it is. But I don’t want to make it smaller either.

Very grateful to everyone who helped make *Cafe'.io*, and to Mesa International Film Festival for making space for our strange little film in this year’s programme.

If you’re in Arizona, the screening schedule is at the link in my bio.

Photos: My little nurse always with me since coming home. …A year and a half ago, I noticed something that didn’t feel quite right. I ignored it and just “lived with it“ hoping it would go away. I finally decided to have it looked at by a specialist. I made an appointment and had it checked. That decision led to a surgery and a diagnosis of Stage 1 tongue cancer. I was terrified. I’m not a smoker, and I tested negative for HPV, but I had dental work two years ago for a cavity and it changed my bite. It caused abrasion on my tongue. This constant abrasion is one of the main causes of tongue cancer.

The good news is that it was found early. The less good news is that even early cancer comes with major surgery, a long recovery, and a new appreciation for just how much we take simple things like eating, talking, and sleeping for granted. I totally under estimated the treatment. The up and down feelings, the way treatment seems to go fast and slow. The good news followed by the bad news followed by good, in my case.

This experience has reinforced something important for me:

Don’t ignore changes in your body.
Whether it’s a lump, a sore that won’t heal, unusual bleeding, a persistent cough, changes in your skin, or something that just doesn’t feel right, get it checked. Most of the time it will be nothing serious. But if it is something serious, early detection can make an enormous difference.

Cancer is difficult at any stage. The diagnosis is frightening, but the treatment and recovery can be challenging in ways you don’t fully appreciate until you’ve experienced them yourself. My support goes out to anyone who has been through this or is still going through it. Resilience is the word that comes to mind.

I am sharing this not because I enjoy talking about my health—those who know me know I’m a VERY private person—but because if one person decides to make an appointment instead of putting it off, then it is worth sharing.
Trust your instincts. Pay attention to your body. Make yourself the priority. Don’t wait.
Early detection saves lives.

Graduated from BUCS tennis 👩🏻‍🎓🎾

After five years of competing for Essex, here I am, played my final BUCS match last Wednesday against Durham.

Looking back to my first year, first came to UK, nothing means anything to me. Got into uni and somehow got somewhere to play tennis. We started from Tier 1, sometimes competing with only three players and struggling through outdoor matches… to now, being in the National Premier League for the first time. This place now means everything to me.

The hardest part is knowing that teammates come and go. You spend every week together, sharing wins, losses, and laughter, and then suddenly, it’s over, and you might never see each other again. But I will always be grateful for the memories and for every incredible person I’ve met along the way. It still amazes me how four or five of us, all from different countries every year, could come together in one place and fight for the same goal.

This year has meant everything to me. I feel so lucky to have been part of a team that I could always laugh with, no matter what. It just feels like a team that has been around for years. I couldn't thanks @prerna_vichare @anakaren.guadiana @alee.dodashev for more❤️

When I first started playing tennis as a kid, I thought it was just something my parents wanted me to do. At 14, training to compete nationally in Hong Kong and internationally, I believed winning was about making them proud. But over these five years, I’ve realised it was never just for them, it was for me.

I love tennis. I love competing with my team. I love pushing myself and fighting for something bigger than just winning. This journey has completely changed how I see the sport, and myself. I definitely can't figure out without people alongside me.

And now… it’s time to say goodbye.

A chapter ends, but a new one is just beginning💕

“It’s Valentine’s Day and she’s newly single, so Anya visits her mum’s beautician for a wax. Legs akimbo on the waxing table, the beautician decides this is the perfect moment to introduce her to manifestation.” A comedic gaze at social expectation, cultural focus on women’s need to be paired up and body expectation.

As it’s set on Valentine’s Day, I’ve put it online just for the weekend - it’s lighthearted, weird and charismatic:

“The tragedy wasn’t losing each other —
it was never reaching the truth in time,
not to each other,
not even to ourselves.”
Vicky & Lola 🌱
Poster launch.
With this poster, we begin our festival journey — the moment this film starts finding its way into the world.
This film is my attempt
to bring to the screen the quiet experience of two lovers —
a park,
and everything that remains unsaid between them.
An urban tragedy shaped around unspoken feelings,
and how never reaching the truth in time
feels like.
It may not succeed fully,
but it comes from a very honest place.
Grateful to a generous cast and crew
who held this story with care and trust.
If you’ve ever loved deeply
but struggled to arrive at what mattered,
this might resonate.
More soon. 🤍

The tragedy wasn’t losing each other — it was never telling the truth, not to each other, not even to ourselves.”

Vicky & Lola 🌱
Trailer out today.

This film is my attempt
to bring to the screen the quiet experience of two lovers —
a park,
and everything that remains unsaid between them.

An urban tragedy shaped around unspoken feelings,
and how failing to acknowledge and share with each other our own truth
can slowly undo a relationship.

It may not succeed fully,
but it comes from a very honest place as writer-director.

This attempt would not exist without a generous cast and crew
who held this story with care, patience, and trust.
I’m deeply grateful to each one of you.

If you’ve ever loved deeply
but struggled to say what truly mattered,
this might resonate.

Watch the trailer.
Let it sit with you and share all constructive thoughts and feedback.
And if it moves you, pass it on. 🤍
