Lisa Hinterreithner: This is not a garden (vegetal encounters)

10.06.–12.06.
20.00
120 min
Creative Cluster
Viktor-Christ-Gasse 10, 1050 Wien
(Limited number of seats)

No garden, no oasis, no idyllic and lavishly green scenery, but a potentially sensual and strange retreat for humans and plants. In This is not a garden, a human-vegetal utopian vision and dystopian reality seem to overlap. An old dimly lit wood-paneled gym invites us to engage with and embrace that which is vegetal. A place to live life at a slower pace, a place where humans are guests and plants are in charge: sprouting, dry and dead things next to moldy, wet, and living things. The performers lay a trail to new transcorporeal arrangements. Legs connected to flowers, bottoms, leaves, heads, stems, hands, branches. What can happen if we allow ourselves to be intimate with plants? An encounter of a different kind.

OH, MAKE YOUR FINGERNAILS INTO SPADES, YOUR PALMS INTO SHOVELS
Dorota Gawęda and Eglė Kulbokaitė (@gawedakulbokaite )
Kunstraum Niederoesterreich (@kunstraum_niederoesterreich ), Vienna
01/04 – 14/05/2022

‚Long fingernails digging into the ground as spades and palms shovelling earth – these images express direct, unmediated contact between humans and nature, but in Gawęda and Kulbokaitė’s practice they also stand for an understanding of relationality that unsettles obvious dichotomies. In their multilayered references to Slavic-Baltic traditions, such as the ancestral celebration Dziady, the gates between the living and the dead are opened as a matter of course, and they invite us to a communal mourning of the great losses of our present times.’

VideoStill aus ihr beider INNERES
Videoinstallation

{Orakel} {Wald} {Feminist horror}

Art is meant to move and change us. In order to do this artist thrust us into new aesthetical paradigms. Whether a work of art manages to change us depends on its ability to involve us by questioning our space, place, and meaning in the world. This is the goal of Esther Stocker's installations and paintings. Walking through her installations requires an effort from us which is not simply aesthetic, but also topological. How anyone, as Martin Heidegger pointed out, can exist and be the being it is depends on its "emplacement." Stocker art is one of emplacements. More of her work here: https://www.estherstocker.net/
