Broadcasting was originally my main focus at Mercer. Before I ever touched a camera, or ever even considered being a creative, it was always about being in front of the camera! Now, taking Grady Newsource has allowed me to continue building on those skills while growing as a journalist. I am Grateful for the opportunity to learn from professionals day in and day out, and thankful for Grady Newsource for giving students the platform to produce amazing content! The first story is a profile of Clarke Central High School football coach David Perno. As Athens prepares for a busy weekend of football, including homecoming and the Classic City Championship, Perno has leaned on his players and support staff while navigating his battle with cancer over the past several months. (Full Video on @gradynewsource channel) My second story focuses on election season and how election officials and poll workers are preparing for the upcoming early voting period. I spoke with poll workers and election officials, as well as an Athens-Clarke County resident, to get insight into how officials are preparing and what voters can expect when they head to the polls. Participants preparing for the 2026 AthHalf Half Marathon faced the challenge of balancing their training goals with the intense Georgia heat and humidity. The half marathon is scheduled for Oct. 11. Race organizers faced their own challenge as a storm front is headed to the region, but organizers said Thursday in an email that they were holding off on making decisions about canceling or delaying the races “until we are certain we can no longer guarantee runners’ safety on the course” due to extreme weather.
