Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba and Graffiti Art Programming are excited to invite interested artists to create artwork to be installed on the childhood cancer and blood disorders ward of Children’s Hospital! We are asking for your help to share this groundbreaking Artist Call that partners Artistic Creators with the healing mission of the Children’s Hospital of foundation of Manitoba. All artwork should radiate the spirit of “Let’s Make Anything Possible” – creating a sense that no dream is too big, no goal unreachable, and every day holds potential for wonder and magic. Art should help children stay connected to nature, their imagination, playfulness, and the joy of simply being a kid. We all know about the healing power of art, now is the time to show it! The Graffiti Gallery is excited to announce that on April 4th, 2025 from 7-10 PM, we will be hosting the very exciting Garbage Bag Fashion Show in collaboration with VOICES: Manitoba’s Youth In Care Network, an organization that provides support, encouragement, and advocacy to young people in and from care in Manitoba. Thank you @mbartscouncil @voicesmyicn @aceburpee @mitch_b_official berniesmith_73 @b.smith.mla @uzomachioma @uzomaforunionstation @evanducharmestudio @fashionikwe Why a Garbage bag Fashion Show? Because Youth in Care want you to know that sometimes the way they are treated sometimes makes them feel like garbage. Youth in Care are often moved very quickly from home to home, or from home into independent life. The show was created to bring these issues to the forefront, and transform those garbage bags into something beautiful. We caught up with some of the models, Uzoma Asagwara, Minister of Health, Seniors and Long-term Care of Manitoba, Bernadette Smith, Minister of Housing, Addictions and Homelessness of Manitoba, as well as one of our designers Even Ducharme, to ask them why they are passionate about joining this fashion show. Admissions to the fashion show will be FREE with a non perishable food item!! Please come and show your support! We would love to see you there! image: In this short clip we see some of the models speak on why the show is important to them, we hear from Uzoma Asagwana, Even Ducharme, and Bernadette Smith, we see the preparation being set up in the gallery.

I had to make a a quick stop while on my way home this evening... These murals are located at @ma_mawi on King and Main Street at Jarvis. They are by Métis artist @kennethlavallee and were created in September of 2017. This was the first year I had been invited to be on the Star Blanket Project team as Ken's assistant on the project, helping with organizing and leading volunteers and holding that chalk line straight and taut. I give credit to the Star Blanket Project for being the project that really kicked my mural-making and public art practice into high gear. I had been invited to meet to discuss the project by Chloe and Andrew of @synonymartconsultation and had my "interview" at a @studio_393 dance party outside Marketlands in downtown Winnipeg, I instantly knew I was in for a ride. That Fall, I got the chance to be trained in Aerial Work Platforms so I could drive scissor lifts, and between classes and work, I participated in my first large scale murals wrapping on not one, but two buildings, all done within a week. These Star Blankets are often the backdrop for the Graffiti Art Programming co-curated @walltowallwpg and has gone as far to reach Brandon, Manitoba. And I haven't stopped making murals since. The project brings awareness to missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls and two spirit folks. They are reminders that literally wrap around our community spaces to remember those who have been lost or taken forcefully from us, to be reminded of their spirits that are never truly gone, and the marks that these women leave in our communities and in the hearts of their loved ones. These murals and every single person who have been a part of the project year after year hold a special place in my heart. Although we cannot be together to paint this year, that love and care remains in the streets of North Point Douglas. Always. ✨ @annie__beach #GAPtakeover
