thanks mom ♡

Well, the annual cross-country post has made its appearance. All of my success this season is credited to my amazing mom. She’s the one who’s up at 4:15 a.m. to get her work done and then heads to the track to start practice for my teammates and me. No one can outwork my mom. She does so much for everyone, and the simple word “no” is not in her vocabulary. Anytime I mention that l’m hungry or my knee hurts, she’s on it— whether that’s getting me food or ice and Advil for my knee, she’ll put down whatever she’s doing to satisfy my needs. She’s also the ultimate MileSplit stalker, so beware (jk jk). I’m the athlete and person I am today because of her constant love, kindness, advice, and support.

I ran every single day for 13 weeks, and of course, there were days when I genuinely didn’t want to run, but I did because of her support. She might ride the bike alongside me, just talking to me and teaching life lessons that I value so much. Anywho, just know I wasn’t alone in my success-it was all because of her.

My mom might be the one who is here with me every day, but there is another coach behind the scenes. He just so happens to be my great uncle, who is actually the coolest person I know. He ran for Texas A&M a while back, and after graduating, he kept pursuing distance running, eventually qualifying for the 1980 Olympic Marathon. He’s the one who writes my workouts, which truly are a work of art. It amazes me how specific he can make a workout and how it’s always perfect for me. I might not see him every day, but here’s a huge shout-out to such an amazing coach.

My whole family is invested in running— it’s truly our sport. My dad joins me on my easy runs, and it’s always a great time. My brother has paved the way for me, and I’m thankful I get to learn from him. As soon as that gun goes off at the start line, my grandmas are screaming. When I near the finish line, they’re screaming then too. I’m truly so thankful that God has given me the family I have, because without them, I don’t know where I would be.
