This past Saturday, I had the honor of presenting an award to my dear friend and mentor, Robyne Robinson of @fivexfivepublicartconsultants, at Opening Windows—a stunning production masterminded by the inimitable @grantwcreative hosted at @daytonsproject, the site of the legendary Dayton’s department store. It was a love letter to the historic downtown Minneapolis retail scene, once made up of Dayton’s, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, and before then, iconic department stores Young-Quinlan, Donaldson’s and Powers.

Opening Windows was one part awards ceremony, one part fashion and dance extravaganza, harkening back Grant’s incredible Fashion Ball productions from a decade ago. The evening was nothing short of magical, pairing runway fashion segments with performances and awards that celebrated local legends in fashion, retail and media. Grant created a heartfelt love letter to downtown Minneapolis, the local retail community, and the trailblazing women of broadcast media who’ve shaped our city—including Robyne Robinson.

Robyne’s impact is immeasurable. From becoming Minnesota’s first Black prime-time news anchor to founding contemporary art gallery flatland, leading public art initiatives, and designing stunning jewelry, she’s a true Renaissance woman and the queen of reinvention. Personally, she’s been a source of wisdom and inspiration to me for over 15 years—always generous with her advice, her stories (ask her about Prince!) and her unwavering support of the local arts.

Thank you, Grant, for curating such a special evening, and thank you, Robyne, for being an enduring light in our community. Your contributions to media, the arts and Minneapolis are unparalleled, and it was a privilege to help celebrate you. 💖

Minneapolis has missed Glamorama! What an awesome night feeling the feels of the Glamorama that was and seeing the future of what Glam is and can be. The work of Children’s Cancer Research Fund, led by Elizabeth Allen, combined with the creative vision of Grant Whitaker and everyone who helped bring this back, truly created something special.

I just love seeing people come together to support important work and causes and getting to hang out with so many friends out for a dressed-up Friday night in the city. We need this as a community.

This red dress has been to a few events now, and last night it came to @theroyalstonsquare for the Royalston Experience.
A well-paced evening of performance — dancers, acrobats, vocalists, and movement — all thoughtfully staged and visually compelling.

The production was polished and entertaining without feeling overworked. Each act held its own, allowing the energy to shift naturally throughout the night. Creative direction by @grantwcreative kept the experience cohesive, with a clear eye for composition and flow, presented by @entourageeventsgroup .

Good spaces, like good clothes, benefit from being revisited.
So do dresses.

Thank you @christine_portillo for the invite, it was a beautiful evening to spend with you.

My collection from 2017, Beauty from Decay, was inspired by mycology and was in response to the political environment. 8 years later this collection, Wanderlust, is coming from that same place. I hope you can make it on May 1st.

What an amazing afternoon… @grantwcreative inaugural event Opening Windows @ the @daytonsproject
I was so honored to be celebrated w/ so many others in the Twin Cities. I loved seeing all our dear media friends and colleagues. You can see all the cool Andy Warhol treatment photos dtwn Mpls across for the Daytons Project and on the skyway on the 2nd level. I think I might even look a little like Farrah Fawcett?!! Special thanks to @britarneson and @kendall.mark for honoring us! Of course to @grantwcreative for celebrating us!!! Of course, Lori was sad to miss today’s festivities ….but she if off somewhere in Cambodia or Vietnam… living it up.❤️
