Welcome to OPENING CREDITS®, the podcast that goes behind-the-scenes of the latest and greatest films and TV shows to meet the crew behind the camera.

As two Graphic Designers who’ve dabbled in the film industry, we realised that today’s relentless streaming and never-ending content has made it feel more closed off than ever, and audiences rarely get to see how any of it actually gets made anymore.

Eindrücke vom see-Camp am 7. April. Hier ging’s in der grünen Oase mitten in Wiesbaden mit acht Workshops, Panels und Vorträgen im Sinne von „act local“ zur Sache. Speziell bei „How to make Barbie“ und den beiden Veranstaltungen zu „Stadtgestaltung“ kamen wir fast an unsere Kapazitätsgrenzen - freuen uns aber natürlich, dass so viele von Euch da waren und wir so viele wunderbare Gespräche hatten. Sometimes it’s the details …. creating a world for Barbie included her books.

5 of some of my favourite pieces of design in films that have stuck with me as a designer.

1. The Nun 2
When this played in front of me at my local cinema, I was mesmerised by graphic design mixing with horror in a way I didn’t expect it to. This scene was the standout for me in the entire film.

2. The Shining
I think The Shining is one of my favourite horror movies, it’s perfect in so many ways, but I think the design involved is what makes it so iconic. I have definitely been inspired by this terrifying hotel and it’s amazing carpets!
.
3. Midsommar
(Can you tell I’m a horror fan yet lol) I think this movie is so beautiful (yes, even the horrific moments) mainly because of the design within it. I loved the foreshadowing throughout using illustration.

4. Barbie
The most beautiful film of 2023, I am absolutely obsessed with this movie’s design. I loved how it mirrored so much of my childhood toys, especially this fridge from the screencap I used.

5. Harry Potter & HBP
I could talk for hours about the graphic prop design in Harry Potter, I just love how Minalima created this world from words alone, and they did it perfectly. My favourite prop has to be the advanced potion making book, along with all its intricate pages full of annotations.
