POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

At 3am, Nicolas Müller was watching Switzerland play Argentina in the World Cup.

At 5am, his alarm went off. Then he went and did an Olympic-distance triathlon!!

Not exactly textbook preparation.

No ranking points. No prize money. No opponent he was expected to beat.

Just 1.5km of swimming, 40km on a bike and a 10km run to get through.

“It was enjoyment,” Müller says. “It was refreshing.”

The swim was the bit he feared most. Open water, very little visibility and nowhere to stop every 50 metres as you might in a pool.

“It was a battle to survive.”

But the whole experience also reminded him why he has always liked putting the racket away for a while during the summer.

“I’m an enjoyment player. I play much better when I enjoy it.”

So yes, this is a story about Nicolas Müller doing a triathlon after barely sleeping.

It is also about why getting away from squash for a while can sometimes be exactly what a squash player needs.
