The Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing is here to commemorate soldiers that had no known grave during the first world war that lost their lives in Ypres. Every evening at 8 PM, the “sounding of the last post” occurs when volunteers blow their bugle, following a minute of silence.

Cloth Hall was built in 13th century. Most of what you see today was rebuilt after it was blown to bits in 1916. Reconstruction work was completed in 1967.

Bunker at Hill 60

Biking through the beautiful Belgium countryside, thinking of how this was all dirt, craters, and casualties. Nature will always prevail.

Between Joey and I sits “no man’s land”

Stuck in the rain whilst exploring no man’s land - poured one out for the boys.

Caterpillar Crater is pictured, which is across the railroad tracks from from Hill 60, which is a World War 1 battlefield memorial, just south of Ypres. There were over 10,000 casualties the day the crater was formed. A mine system was built underneath the land and filled with explosives, detonating at 3:10 am on June 7th, 1917.

This is Sanctuary Wood, a small museum just outside of Ypres, located in the neighborhood of the Canadian Hill 62 Memorial and the Sanctuary Wood Cemetery.

The museum was owned by Jacques Schier, who was the grandson of the original farmer that owned the land prior to WW1. When the farmer came back to reclaim his property after the war was over, he found a massive trench system and a destroyed wood. So many artifacts and photos can be seen here!

This is an original British trench system. While cleaned up and restored a bit, this is one of the only original trench systems that you can walk through. My boots hit the mud and tears welled up in my eyes. What a surreal experience.

One of the many cemeteries in the area.

Before taking the train back to Ghent, we popped off of our bikes and took the risk to sift through a tilled farm field in the area. We nearly gave up, but about 7-10 minutes of searching, we discovered bits and pieces of shrapnel, a potential little stone cannonball, and a piece of an old glass bottle. Touching and fe

I didn’t think to record until I was doing the final checks on @gravelizard’s bike. But what you’re watching is the first official bicycle customer in my shop (house). Another on the rack. Stay Rad #stemsandsprockets #bikeshop

Wrapped up a service for a neighbor today.

Hybrid shifter conversion, fresh cables, brake correction, and a quick rear wheel true.

Caught the final checks on video. Making sure shifting is clean and braking is solid before it goes back out.

Taking on small jobs while I build things out.

Reach out if you need something looked at.

Okay, the holiday goodies go away TODAY! January and February decor, whatever that means, is in the works ~

However, today my house is in a seasonal shamble - with thanksgiving, halloween, st. patrick’s day, valentine’s day, and most importantly christmas all strewn about until i can organize the closets. who needs a gym membership with 3 sets of stairs?! 😅 pray for @gravelizard, who’s working from home today and can’t avoid the hurricane that is me. ❣️❤️‍🔥
