In lieu of our final week of “Por’Knockers”, I just wanna show much love and gratitude to my boys (@ayokev247, @dontaye_albert, @graysonkennedy02, @sincerelyjp__, @jimmierogersiii), my talented + patient director @makarirm, my family for bringing me on to such a special show @gwydiontheatrecompany, extended fam aka wonderstudies @jimmierogersiii + @xaviehur + @angel_mkay, and the incomparable, legendary @lynnnottage for sharing yet another timeless classic that will forever be etched into my journey as an artist and remind me that nothing is perfect or complete: the job is to just last.
Tamara, you are a force.
Intelligent. Powerful.
It has been a pleasure to tell your story, and the story of many black women just like US.

This week’s performances are apart of the @falloffreedom campaign; an urgent call to the arts community to unite in defiance of
authoritarian forces sweeping the nation. Our Democracy is under attack.
Threats to free expression are rising. Dissent is being criminalized. Institutions
and media have been recast as mouthpieces of propaganda. Art matters. Artists are a threat to American fascism. Check the Fall Of Freedom IG/Tiktok to find out where artists are hosting events in your city and go out and support this cause! ✊🏾

So great to see this production of Po’ Knockers by Lynn Nottage in its first Chicago production. Gwydion Theatre is a relatively new ensemble in town, and they are values-driven company. It’s exciting to see the next generation of theatre makers commit to the community and program ensemble-oriented work that speaks to our time. (And exciting to see any production that features the talents of Justice Ford and Grayson Kennedy and this terrific cohort of actors.) Next weekend’s performances will be part of playwright Lynn Nottage’s Fall of Freedom project, where artists across the country join in “joyful communities of defiant creativity. It moved me that this new company is so committed to their community-centric mission that they gave a pitch for donations and support for Fall of Freedom at the end of their performance, where they would typically ask for support for their own work. Po’ Knockers is just one of many artistic collectives across the country participating in Fall of Freedom. To find events in your area, go to falloffreedom.com and check out the Event Maps page. @gwydiontheatrecompany @fallofffreedom @lynnottage @justicejford @graysonkennedy02

Gwydion Theatre Company is proud to stand with Lynn Nottage and participate in Fall of Freedom 💚💛

Fall of Freedom is an urgent call to artists, organizers, institutions, and communities across the country to come together in a nationwide wave of creative resistance.

Our production of POR’KNOCKERS is a play that speaks heavily to resistance. No act is too small and we are adding our event to the map.

Take part Oct. 2-4, 2026
