❤️ RED IS SO OUR COLOR ❤️

But to us, red has always meant so much more than just a color. Red is the color we wear when we celebrate our sisters. It’s the color we wear when we show up for one another. It’s the color that represents the women who came before us, the women standing beside us, and the women we hope to inspire.

But most importantly, red represents a cause bigger than any of us. Women’s heart health. 🌹

Through the Alpha Phi Foundation, we support the fight against heart disease in women. Our philanthropy holds an especially meaningful place in our hearts because heart health isn’t just something we talk about, some of our very own sisters and the women we love have been personally impacted by heart disease.

Heart disease can feel like something that happens “later” or to someone else. But the truth is, heart disease is the leading cause of death for Women in the United States, and it can affect women at any age!

Swipe to learn some very surprising facts about women’s heart health! ❤️

Heart disease is the number 1 killer of women in the United States. More than 300,000 women die from heart disease every single year. That is about 1 in every 5 female deaths.

Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of new mothers as well, accounting for one-third of all maternal deaths.

Nearly 45% of women ages 20 and older are living with some form of cardiovascular disease. This isn’t just an issue for older women, this can affect all the amazing women around us.

Women are significantly less likely to be given CPR in public from bystanders. Many people hesitate to help because of the misconception that women do not suffer from sudden cardiac arrest.

Up to 64% of women who die from heart disease have no prior symptoms. Standard X-rays and other testing can mistakenly appear “normal” even when heart disease is present.

Younger women are seven times more likely, than men, to be misdiagnosed and sent home from a hospital, while actively experiencing a heart attack.

Women are twice as likely, than men, to die the first few weeks after a heart attack. The survival odds after a heart attack are extremely stacked against women.
