What do you know about Maastricht? Here are 6 fun facts about this underrated city! 1.) It’s the birthplace of the European Union, which developed in the early 1990s with the Maastricht Treaty. 2.) It’s about to be directly connected to Aachen in Germany and Liège in Belgium with the launch of a new train line at the end of the year. 3.) It’s the oldest city in the Netherlands. 4.) It has more than 400 bars and restaurants and 1,677 National Heritage buildings. 5.) It’s so close to Belgium, you could cycle or walk over the border in just 1.8 miles. 6.) If you’re officially a resident in Maastricht, you can call yourself a Maastrichtenaar. Sounds mythical!
