In conversation with @zenalythgo.celebrant and @greenhaven.funerals some time ago, I was discussing the subject of what can make counselling for grief different to counselling for mental illness or other concerns for which people often present. They suggested I make a video discussing this, which I am now sharing with you.

I give my condolences to anybody who may be experiencing or anticipating a loss of any kind. I am here if you need my support — find me at www.yourlistener.com.au

“We are event planners for deceased people”.

On episode 4 of 𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝕺𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖗 𝕾𝖎𝖉𝖊 Podcast, I sat down with Carly Dalton to unpack how she ended up in the funeral industry. She tells the story of being met with resistance initially, which only fuelled her desire to make it happen.

As the owner and operator of Greenhaven Funerals, Carly is actively involved in every step of the journey. While caring for families remains a priority, Carly has developed a passion for mentoring others who wish to step into this vocation.

Carly Dalton has seen a number of changes during her time as a funeral director. Some of the most notable are:

1. A shift from morbid, somber settings to a “celebration of life”.
2. Simple, affordable coffins instead of big fancy caskets.
3. Religious services were declining, but seem to be making a comeback.
4. Family-led funerals, with less involvement from the celebrant or minister.

What other trends have you noticed?

25 years into a career in HR, Carly Dalton’s father became ill and passed away unexpectedly. Her less-than-ideal experience with the funeral director prompted her to think about how things could’ve been done differently.

Carly is now the owner and operator of Greenhaven Funerals - a business she has been running for over 14 years alongside her husband Tim. Together they have cared for thousands of families all around Melbourne.

For anyone considering a career shift into the funeral industry, this is one you won’t want to miss. Full episode out on all platforms tomorrow via 𝕿𝖍𝖊 𝕺𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖗 𝕾𝖎𝖉𝖊 Podcast 🎙️
