What a brilliant day at our Arboriculture Sports Day! 🌳

The rain may have been with us all day, but it certainly didn’t stop play! Our arborist apprentices and students tackled a range of challenges, showcasing impressive skill, teamwork, and determination. From speed and freestyle climbing to knot tying, chainsaw bar and chain changing, carabiner challenges, blindfolded plant identification, and throwline competitions, there was plenty to put their abilities to the test. It was fantastic to see everyone getting involved, supporting one another, and enjoying some friendly competition.

A huge thank you to @arbortecfw , @honeybros_com and @greenlinearb for your incredible support and generosity in helping make the day such a success. Your encouragement and contributions helped create a fantastic experience for our learners. 🙌🌿

Some early successes in our allotment this week, globe artichokes, cabbages and radish were harvested. One of the biggest joys of our work is seeing our members go home with their veg and seeing what they and their families cook with them. We've also made up our second batch of elderflower cordial 😋

We've welcomed volunteers from @veoliauk and work experience groups from @ohc.and.at and @mertoncollege joined us this week in some fairly heavy rain, and a visit from Alex and Bill the dog with a lovely drop of woodchip courtesy of @greenlinearb

A wonderful week at 🐸

Spring turned up on Wednesday. Bob, Ant & Derek kindly donated a trailer of compost from @ntmordenhallpark - work experience students from @orchardhillcollege and @mertoncollege helped tidy up the front of our site too.

More woodchip arrived, so there is now a complete path from the pavilion to the allotment - this wouldn't have been possible without the good people @greenlinearb so big thanks to them.

Today, the 🐸 members were joined by the students of Meadow Room from the Aurora Centre, @mertoncollege under the superb tutelage of @wendywhittleton. This group can certainly work hard, and we were very impressed with them as together we created a woodchip path, lined by logs behind the orchard.

Thanks guys!

Today's task: loading Arctic Lorries with walking floors and sending them to the power station to boost the national grid's power supply. Come and tip and help us fill it back up 🪵🪵 Kempsey, Worcestershire

We don't encourage much sitting down at 🐸, but it's nice to have the option on occasion. The fire pit area had been overtaken by long grass over the Summer, and it was time to put it right.

So this week the members, with a bit of help from the work experience group from the Aurora Centre @mertoncollege cleared away the grass and put down woodchip and logs courtesy of the good people @greenlinearb

Refurbishments will be taking place across our site over the next few months, the plans are very exciting 😁
