BLACK COMIC HISTORY HAS A NAME. BROTHERMAN. ✊🏾

If you know me, you know I am a completionist. I complete Brotherman 1-11 earlier this year. I am proud to announce I have completed the entire collection of trade volumes and they are signed!!

Check this history:
In 1990, Dawud Anyabwile and Guy A. Sims, alongside their brother Jason Sims, put Black imagination into print and ownership into practice.

They built Big City. They gave us Antonio Valor. They showed generations of creators what was possible when you published your own vision.

Today, Brotherman is part of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture collection. Imagine your family’s dream becoming part of the nation’s memory.

This is why I collect and why I champion Black indie comics. These pages carry somebody’s courage, sacrifice, and belief that their stories deserved to exist.

Flowers to @dawud_anyabwile, Guy A. Sims, Jason Sims, and Revelation colorist Brian McGee.

Come see @dawud_anyabwile at BACE, at the @blackatlantacomicexpo, October 31 and November 1 at Crowne Plaza Atlanta NE in Norcross! Bring your Brotherman books and give this legend his flowers in person. ✊🏾🔥shoutout @greg_burnham7 !!

Buy the books. Credit the creators. Pass the history on.

Who introduced YOU to Brotherman? For me it was @i_am_dw_bannerman

✈️🤖 THE OTHER PAGEZ — TUSKEGEE HEIRS: FLAMES OF DESTINY! ✊🏾🔥

What happens when you combine the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen with futuristic fighter jets, giant robots, and anime-inspired action?

You get TUSKEGEE HEIRS: FLAMES OF DESTINY!

Created by Marcus Williams and Greg Burnham, this independent sci-fi adventure takes the inspiring legacy of the legendary Black WWII aviators and launches it into the future! 🚀

Set roughly 80 years into the future, the story follows five gifted young pilots trained at the historic Moton Field by Colonel Mars, a fictional descendant of the Tuskegee Airmen.

Their mission?

Defend Earth against a dangerous army of artificial intelligence determined to destroy civilization!

And these aren’t your average fighter pilots.

We’re talking advanced aircraft, high-tech combat, teamwork, and yes…

GIANT TRANSFORMING ROBOTS! 🤖🔥

But underneath all that futuristic action is something even more meaningful.

LEGACY. HISTORY. HERITAGE.

The original Tuskegee Airmen overcame extraordinary barriers to become some of America’s most respected military aviators. This series takes inspiration from their courage and determination to introduce a new generation of heroes.

✍🏾 Writers/Co-Creators: Greg Burnham & Marcus Williams
🎨 Illustrator: Marcus Williams
🎨 Issue #5 Colors: Rodney Velchez

And can we appreciate these covers for a moment?! 👀

The character designs, the expressive artwork, and that unmistakable anime/mecha influence make this feel like something that could jump straight into an animated series.

What I especially appreciate is seeing independent Black creators use science fiction to introduce younger audiences to an important piece of Black history.

Because honoring the past doesn’t mean we can’t imagine an extraordinary future.

📖 Explore the series at TuskegeeHeirs.com.

💬 Here’s a question for my fellow anime and comic fans: Would you watch Tuskegee Heirs if it became an animated mecha series?
