The Colt 45 7at7 party at Southpaw on May 12th, 2009. All 📸 by Jeff Meltz @thecultureofme

The JellyNYC crew put this one together. The bands were the Phenomenal Handclap Band, Wizardry, and Golden Triangle with Nick Catchdubs on DJ duty.

If you recall, Colt 45 was going party crazy around this time. My understanding was they had a partnership with Vice and Greg from FOTP was going around setting up partnerships for one-off bashes with different NYC party throwers to promote Colt. JellyNYC was tapped to organize this edition. Did I get that about right?

The party was to promote the 7 ounce bottles and cans that Colt 45 released. As such, they had thousands of those evil little bastards everywhere you looked. They also had cool schwag like wristbands and brown paper bag koozies, which I still have.

The thing is, when you’re drinking tiny little bottles of malt liquor, you quickly lose track of how many drinks you’ve had — especially when they’re free. Needless to say, everyone had about 50 and the whole place was hammered. It was a wild party.

We were in some lounge area for a while, hanging out with Mastro and associates, on some couches. I didn’t think I drank that much but when I finally stood up the room was spinning. After I steadied myself we went and caught the bands, all of whom were awesome.

I already loved Golden Triangle but I believe this was my first time seeing Wizardry, who were great.

I’ve done my fair share of drinking back in the day but this was extra crazy. I remember sitting with a friend trying to calculate how many real beers we had but it was an impossible task, especially with malted minds. Mathing ain’t easy when your brain is floating in a Colt 45 stew.

This party supposedly ended at 11pm but I have no clue when we left or how the hell I got home.
