February 11, 1937 - January 5, 2024

I am sad to share that our beloved Dad and Deda passed away last Friday 1/5. He passed peacefully at home with my mom and his family by his side.

My dad was one of the most hardworking, humble, kind and positive people that we ever knew. Lucky for me and Robin, he was our dad and our role model for our lives. He was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia on February 11, 1937. He had a hard start to life in the Holocaust as a survivor of Terezin. He went on to live a happy life filled with love and optimism but those years haunted him until his passing. He and my mom met at the Czech Technical University in Prague when mom (architectural student) helped him with a final project in engineering. They married in January 1963 and had almost 61 years of adventure, love and happiness. They were the best of partners in every way. They came to the US in 1969 where my dad did his 2nd Masters in Engineering at the University of Washington. My dad was a very proud lifetime Alumni of the UW. He worked at several companies as a structural engineer over the years and loved his work.

His biggest pride was his family. He loved my mom Vera so much and their love and marriage is a role model to us all. Robin and I are lucky to call him our father. His kindness, love, sense of humor, loyalty, work ethic, wisdom, resilience and optimism will live with us forever. He was SO proud of his 7 grandchildren. Kayla, Greg, Lukas, Chris, Jack, Nick and Kate. He loved them endlessly and loved watching them in all their activities. He loved skiing and being out on his boat, Czech Mate, with his grandchildren, family and friends.

We will all miss him so dearly but know his imprint on us will last forever. Dedaโ€™s favorite saying when we would leave was โ€œDonโ€™t do anything I wouldnโ€™t doโ€ and we will all remember to live by his advice.

We will be honoring my dad in a Celebration of Life on 1/20 at 1:00 at the Mercer Island Community Center.

Rest in Peace Dad. We will love you forever.
