Today we’re celebrating one year of the St. Louis Mural Project. ✨

28 murals. 14 wards. All created by St. Louis artists.

Public art initiatives like this one help beautify the city, embrace collaboration, uplift local talent, and shine a light on St. Louis’ story.

One year ago, we wrapped up this visionary initiative side by side with the artists, alderpeople, and community members who helped make the project possible.

These murals capture the spirit and distinctiveness of each area, each telling its own unique story.

If you haven’t yet, this is your sign to get out and see the murals.

🗺️ Explore the interactive map + meet the artists at stlouisarts.org/stlmp (link in bio).

The STLMP was funded through ARPA for the Arts and managed by the Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis.

In Ward 7, right off of Gravois Ave between Juniata and Wyoming, you’ll find “Flowers for Curt Flood (Saga of the Newport Gundam)”, created by St. Louis Mural Project artist Gregory Michael Carter. It’s beautiful. It’s meaningful. You should really stop by to see it.

Curt Flood, the namesake for this mural, was an outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals during the 1960’s. His story is a focal point for this work and advocates for his inclusion in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. This mural is also dedicated to the natural beauty of this region. The flowers represent bounty but also the responsibility of the stewardship of this land. Visit the @stltoday website and search for Curt Flood to see a recent article on the artist and this piece!

Mural Location: 3180 Gravois Ave

B.A.R.Houston was phenomenal. An answered prayer. An open ended question. A great fellowship of numerous exchanges of care and peer support. Uplifting our joy and honor in Black Beingness. Thank you @camhouston, the leader @ryandennistaylor, the architect @theastergates, the breath @mich.el.son, @sanmanstudios for hosting, and all of the presenters and artists who expanded together this weekend. I was honored to offer a closing performance installation, special thanks to Gory Smelley for having me dialed in. Tag people, come to Marfa with me, and let’s keep in touch! Truly. #barhouston #theblackartistsretreat #ilovebeingblack #blacklovebeing #beingloveblack #blackbeinglove

My Birthday was today and I wish time would stop. I don’t post on here enough so here are some selfies and photos of me interacting with other live humans this past year. I will try and do more of this this year.

And special shout to Mr Terry (blue shirt & suspenders) who we lost this year. Elder, gardener, and intellect. Call people when you are advised to call them y’all.
