When fading around locs, control is everything. 💈

One wrong move with your clippers can cut into a loc that took your client years to grow.

I like using clipper-over-comb because the comb creates a barrier between the clipper and the locs while still giving me the control I need to create a clean, consistent fade.

Protect the hair. Take your time. Get the fade right. 🔥

Going against the grain can create an extremely close cut, but for some clients that can also increase the risk of irritation, razor bumps, and ingrown hairs.

That’s why preparation is just as important as the shave itself. Using steam helps soften the hair and skin, making the hair easier to cut with less resistance.

A beard wash should feel relaxing — not like you’re cooking your client 😂💈

Before applying a hot towel, always test the temperature on the inside of your arm first. Even after testing it, ask your client if the temperature feels comfortable once it’s applied.

Sometimes the best move is to stop trying to hide the alopecia spot and focus on making the overall haircut look clean and consistent. 💈

With this client, we used to be able to cover the area when his hair was longer. Now that his hair is shorter, the better approach is keeping the fade even, balanced, and natural instead of forcing the haircut to disguise something that’s going to show anyway.

As barbers, part of the job is adapting to what the client’s hair allows us to do.

Work with the hair — not against it.

Being a father is my greatest joy in life, and there is nothing that i’m most proud of than being @gregsmalls_ Dad. He came into my life at just 22 years old, and he has raised me into the man I am today, just as much as I raised him.

It wasn’t easy navigating fatherhood living life as a gay man, and I didn’t always make the best decisions in the midst of my own struggles. But one things for sure, everything happened just as it was supposed to.
