Stephen Carley aka aUDIOMAPS. Choose Your Fighter and Other Stories. Some photographs and feedback from Saturday night at The Handbag Factory, Vauxhall… “Like doom scrolling through Twitter / X on acid”. “A mature work of tessellated Juvenalian apocalyptic hope”. “Well that was fuckety fuck fuck fab. Just great work”. “ACE. Looks a bit like the old video game DOOM! Insane”. ““Choose Your Fighter and Other Stories - a powerful piece indeed! It was a rollicking good performance Brother!”. “Dada is dead, long live Dada”. “I don’t know who looks more exhausted Stephen, you or the audience!”. Well that went quite well! I think… Absolutley could not do this without the creative support and collaboration of Julia Schauerman, Chris Finguz, Adam Zegma and Patrick Carley. And Jon Bennett in this current incarnation… Both live, devising and remixing / recording. Thank you so much. And of course Simon Elliott-Kemp and Jim Ever for their work on previous versions. Chapeau. Thank you to; The London Group for giving me this platform. Andia Newton for PA and mirror. Genetic Moo (Nicola and Tim) for technical set up and support. Nicola Schauerman and Paul Bonomini for photographs. And to the audience for being there and going with the flow! Hieronymous Bosch meets the The Clangers… Or Bruce Nauman arguing with Vic and Bob in a ball pool… “Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air”… William Shakespeare From The Tempest, Act 4 Scene 1. Choose Your Fighter and Other Stories, is part of THIS THAT AND THE OTHER. The London Group Annual at The Handbag Factory, 3 Loughborough St, London, SE11 5RB. BISH BASH BOSCH. JULIA SCHAUERMAN vs aUDIOMAPS. Facebook link here for aUDIOMAPS vs Exquisite CORPS. REMIX / replay; https://stephencarley.co.uk/aUDIOMAPS-vs-EXQUISITE-CORPS Performed at SOUND JUNCTION. The University of Sheffield. November 2025. aUDIOMAPS vs Exquisite CORPS. REMIX / replay. The FIFTH and final ‘post performance’ remix from the Sound Junction event back in November 2025. This collaboration was the first piece in the jigsaw of this performance project. And, coincidently, was the opening collaborative piece on the night… Huge amount of spontaniety and improvisation invloved. So, yet again, a reminder of that beautifully symbiotic process. “Hey, can I give you the stem files for these aUDIOMAPS recordings I’ve made? Just play with them, remix, reinterpret, mangle, reconfigure. Whatever you want really…I’ve just been offered this ‘gig’…” “Yeah, sure, that’d be dead cool”… The process; Lo-Fi / DIY / solo recordings made at Ribcage Studio. Released as aUDIOMAPS on Bandcamp. Films made for each piece. The raw audio stem files shared with The Exquiste Corps. Carte blanche response in terms of how they use them. Shared. Deconstructed. Remixed. Reinvented. A mix comes back. Wow! Thats a surprising outcome… always! We talk, Have coffee / biscuits / etc. We devise live components. There is a huge amount of freedom here. Improvisation. Spontaniety. To create an original structure. Films are remixed to segue into the new Exquiste Corps interpretations. Creative generosity is essential. Trust in the process. And trust in each other. We ‘rehearse’. And perform. I am director / conductor. Part disruptor. Sampler and dismantler. A voice somewhere in the maelstrom. The Exquisite Corps play their refrains. And the films will tell their stories…

And so the final section of the ‘feedback loop’ in the process gets going. Currently in the studio recording the live parts. You like cassette, we’ll have that! CD? That as well! What an exhilerating and exciting journey this has been. Your creative generosity is extraordinary. I’m humbled. Additionally Moony and Chris Finguz for additional studio recording and mixes towards the cassette and CD release. Thank you to Nick Potter for the opportunity. Really appreciated. We should do this again. And to the technical and admin team at Sound Junction / University of Sheffield - Thank you.

2025… A very busy year. A strange, surreal year… So much of what I have been able to do has been rooted in creative partnerships and collaboration. I’m hugely grateful to all those people who have played such a crucial part in all of this… Thank you. Exhibitions; A Bell is a Cup Until it is Struck. 59 Artists from across the UK and Europe. A conversation about contemporary painting curated by Stephen Carley, Kate Jacob and Sean Williams RSA (Royal Scottish Academy of Art) open. Edinburgh. Sound Junction, University of Sheffield. With Julia Schauerman, Simon Elliott - Kemp, Jim Ever, Patrick Carley, Adam Zegma and Chris Finguz. Showroom Shorts SYFN. Rob Speranza. Teaching. Transmission lecture at SIA. Now part-time at school… considering the frankly ludicrous circumstances that precipitated this decision, it is probably the best thing I did all year! As John Hoyland once said; “When one is young and has experienced a good deal of rejection, you want to show everyone how tough you are. Later you want to show how clever you are. Later still, you want to see how far you can push yourself. And finally, you don’t give a f**k about anything, you just want to howl at the moon.” Chapeau John, chapeau.

IT’S HERE!!! ClockDVA’s long-awaited remaster of their debut ‘White Souls in Black Suits’ is out now. Thank you to everyone for your patience, we hope you’re enjoying the album, and cherishing the signed art card if you got one. They have been a labour of love and despite a hold-up with customs, they should now be with you, hand-signed by ClockDVA as they were in 1980. If you haven’t got one, don’t worry - you can still get them via Mute Bank UK. You can now check out the visualiser for ‘Anti-Chance’, a direct collaboration with Cabaret Voltaire that brought together two of Sheffield’s most innovative outfits. Adi explained: “On ‘Anti-Chance’ we used random tapes from both DVA and Cabaret Voltaire. It was a direct William Burroughs / Brion Gysin [inspired] audio cut up piece.” Chance is fundamental to Change. More exciting releases coming soon…

aUDIOMAPS vs Exquisite Corps. REMIX / replay. SOUND JUNCTION November 2025. Well, that was quite a special night last Friday. Still ‘buzzing’ (as they say). But I simply couldn’t have pulled that off without the creative generosity and collaboration from Julia Schauerman, Chris Finguz, Simon Elliot-Kemp, Jim Ever, Patrick Carley and Adam Zegma. What a GROOOP. Thank you all so much. And a big thank you to the Sound Junction crew. Nick, Nick, Adrian, Hannah. Bloody hell, it really helps having that sort of backing! “If one more person tells me this is just like the old times, I swear I’ll jump out the window”. Buster Keaton. Great crowd as well - that was so exciting having a packed venue. I’ve been getting all kinds of positive plaudits over the last few days which has been slightly overwhelming at times. Some of my favourite bits of feedback so far have been; “Well that was fuckety fuck fuck fab!! You and the team were fab. You should be really proud. Great achievement”. Trish. “It was amazing. Totally the right context. It was really vulnerable and sensitive. I keep thinking about it. It was incredibly powerful on lots of levels. You must do it again”. Fiona. “Was a great night... well done. Long live Dada”. Nort. “Performance was first class. Sound images and live performance. It made so much sense of the senslessness, and bought together all the elements of your work Stephen. So much more than watching just on a small screen… Blown away by the quality of everything and just your pure bravery.” Kate. “I was delighted for you as you’ve really put your heart and soul into your work. It was amazing and the tone was really well judged. Well done matey!” Ron. “A mature work of tessellated Juvenalian apocalyptic hope”. Mark. I’ve been defusing since! A quiet time in studio the last few days just putting gear back, tidying up. And I’m thinking about the next thing! I mean, I’m open to discussion here… Some great photos courtesy of @jenniferclowes “I think humour is used a lot of the time to keep people from getting too close. Humour side-steps and shifts the meaning.” Bruce Nauman.
