To be honest, Naples felt like my personal hell

I wasn’t prepared to romanticise the crime, poverty, social inequality, toxic masculinity and garbage crisis. At one point, I saw a guy walking around the city wearing earplugs. An hour later, I found myself thinking about him and wishing I’d had the same idea.

So here’s a little travel tip: go before your prefrontal cortex is fully developed, when you’re young, fun, and don’t need sleep

To be fair, the food, Vesuvius, the ancient ruins, and good friends deserve their own love letter

Cairo, Luxor, all the way down to the Abu Simbel Temple near the Sudanese border and exit trough Hurghada. It was incredible to explore more of Egypt’s rich history - standing in places that have existed for thousands of years really puts things into perspective.

One thing that stuck with me was learning about Hatshepsut, Egypt’s first female pharaoh. To be accepted as a ruler in a male-dominated world, she reshaped her image— with a false beard and being portrayed as a man in statues and carvings. It’s fascinating, and also a bit heartbreaking, how even back then, women had to alter themselves to hold power.

Still, as much as I appreciated the epicness of the old stones and the origin of life aka the glorious Nile, nothing quite compares to the laid-back energy of Dahab (fuck I just love my hippie towns).
