14.07.2024 | An appreciation post to one of my favorite places in the world (yes, it’s that good!).

I visit Loes once a month for a sport massage to loosen any stiffness in my shoulder/back from exercise and my desk job.

We are so used to push our body, without taking proper care. Taking time to recover and heal is as important. Believe me, you will know when you get older lol. When you read this post, hope you’re looking to see what sport massage entails and what it can do for you.

As Loes from @grintaperformance has received an amazing opportunity, she will close down her practice. I will miss this place. Looking forward to her new chapter ahead and I am just in aww of her determination and zest for life. Can’t wait to see all that she is going to achieve! #congrats🎉 #followyourpath

Let's go back to Sunday 21 April 2024.

Exactly 1 day after my 24th birthday, I was at the start of the marathon in London!!! My 2nd star out of 6!!! I had heard a lot about the famous London marathon, but the reality defied imagination. An incredible experience from start to finish, literally 42.2km of goosebumps. Masses of people and a wall of noise.

Other than that, it was also a very emotional marathon for me. That day, everything fell together. Exactly five years ago, I started my adventure towards a better version of myself, which continues to this day. On 20 April 2019, I weighed 126.5 kilograms and was heavily addicted to alcohol. 5 years later with massive ups and downs, the loss of very many people around me, I can say with immense pride that I am running a marathon at 2h54m34s. That is an 18-minute improvement. But this is not the end, this is the beginning to even more great things. During these 5 years, I have already learnt a lot. In the first place things about myself about the world and the people around you. What I want to pass on are the following tips or life wisdom:
1) never let yourself be told the biggest lie that people often tell: "It's not that easy". It is easy, you only make it as difficult as you want it to be.
2) trust in yourself and know that no one else will be there to help you when you are struggling. Unfortunately, you are on your own.
3) fall 100 times but get back up 101 times. Do so with great pride, because failure is no shame not getting back up is. These are the moments you learn the most about yourself.
4) love the process and the story. Only that way you will achieve the things you want to achieve.

Moreover I also want to thank a few people.
First of all my coach, Philip Cortvriendt for the trainings and his guidances. Thanks to him I did the wonderful performance in London. Thanks to Gilles Kempeneers for helping me with the aches I had the last 2 months. And thanks to Loes Meulemans, for getting my calfs and legs loose in the last week. Otherwise I would still be stiff on the day of the marathon.

Peace and untill the next marathon!!

Training down under be like ☀️🌊🦘

It’s been three weeks in Australia, and I’ve been somewhat MIA on social media.
Here’s the scoop:
Back in Belgium, life was a whirlwind – constant running, a bout of illness over Christmas, rehabilitation from an injury, and a dip in my mental state. The pressure I placed on myself heading into the Olympic year turned me into a controlling perfectionist, a version of myself I didn’t like. I forgot to enjoy the journey.
Upon landing in Australia, I expected an instant mood boost. While the sunshine helped, I realized I needed more – time and space to recharge, both physically and mentally. I prioritized “me time” and established clear priorities: training, health, and then socializing and social media.
Now, after some much-needed self-care, I’m in a better place. Training is on track, and I’ve struck a balance between pushing myself and savoring the beauty of this incredible place. Here’s to finding my flow and embracing the journey. 🏋️‍♀️💫
