POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This David H. Keller collection is an absolute must-read. To see why, here is a glimpse from Fender Tucker’s introduction:
“I think we’ll all agree that a collection of 45 short stories that represents 25 years of an author’s life merits an introduction. Unfortunately, I’m the only person I know who has the time or desire to write it so you’ll have to settle for my take on Keller - or better yet, just skip onto the stories themselves. Until I was given four books of Dr. David H. Keller stories by Cedric Clute—I trust anyone reading this book knows Ced—1 had never heard of the good doctor. The books were: LIFE EVERLASTING (1947), TALES FROM UNDERWOOD (1952), THE FOLSOM FLINT AND OTHER CURIOUS TALES (1969) and THE LAST MAGICIAN (1978). The book you’re holding has all of the short stories that were found in them.
First, let’s get all of the David Copperfield crap out of the way. David H. Keller was born in 1880, whizzed through school in five years (after an unusual start on the first day of first grade when it was found that he only spoke a private language that he and his older sister could understand), and became a medical doctor in 1903. He was at first a general practitioner but soon found himself working at psychiatric hospitals in New Jersey, Illinois, New Mexico and Louisiana. He also spent WWI in the Medical Corps. All the while he was writing stories and novels and in 1927 he sold “The Revolt of the Pedestrians” to Amazing Stories, which brings us to the end of this book. It was the first story he had actually sold for money, and the next 25 years brought at least 44 more tales for profit, bringing us to the beginning of the book, 1952 and the publication of “The Face in the Mirror”. I guess it’s about time I mentioned that I named this book KEELER MEMENTO because I am mildly obsessed with Christopher Nolan’s 2000 film, Memento, and think that more…”

Look at that @groonster art! How gorgeous!

I swear, whenever Joel Townsley Rogers comes up in conversation, I lose my mind a little bit. I just gets so damn excited. The guy is an absolute deity of high weirdness. Joel’s style is feverish, atmospheric, and I think it’s even fair to say…. avant-garde. He’s a total curve ball.

I’m so deeply in love with Once in a Red Moon. It’s his 1923 debut. It’s a satiric mystery novel about greed and betrayal. And its stylistic pyrotechnics completely sets the stage for his most famous work, The Red Right Hand.

And holy schnikes, I wish we had the rights to the full version of The Red Right Hand. It is genuinely one of my favorite books of all time. And it’s the absolute Ulysses of mystery novels.

We are pleased as pie to announce our new release!

The Sound Machine
By Edmund Snell

Here’s the skinny:
Marian Granger is trying to warn Peter Enright, owner of Power House, that her uncle Professor Gerardo, disgruntled at having had his new invention rejected by Enright, is fit to be tied—to the extent that he is apt to take out revenge by letting loose with his invention. Gerardo’s invention? A device which can destroy objects by emitting concentrated sound waves.
In the meantime Michael Rodd, an old friend of Enright’s, has returned to England and is falling in love with Miss Granger. It doesn’t take long for this triumvirate to be engaged in locating Gerardo and stopping him before he can wreak havoc on the world.

What else?
This title is released as #34 in the Dancing Tuatara Press imprint founded by John Pelan, as it was originally planned by John but not released before his passing. This edition includes a new introduction by Chase Griffin.

It’s a work of weird horror that predated H.P. Lovecraft, and was deeply admired by same. But it’s always had an odd thing about it. It starts out with four cracking creepy tales of bizarre occurance and horrible circumstance: “The Repairer of Reputations,” “The Mask,” “In The Court of The Dragon” and “The Yellow Sign,” mostly unrelated but tied together by an evil play, the titular “The King in Yellow,” that causes madness in those who read it. But the fifth story, “The Demoiselle d’Ys,” is only a romance with a supernatural element, and the remaining stories are mostly traditional romances, quite the letdown from those expecting more of the style of the first half. Our little contribution to this classic work is to reverse the order of the stories: it begins with the romances, then with “The Yellow Sign” it starts to get WEIRD, concluding in the terrific unreliable narrator tale “The Repairer of Reputations.”

Not only did Lovecraft love it, he and others in his literary circle included references to The King in Yellow in their own work, and continued to be referenced long after, from Marion Zimmer Bradley to Stephen King, perhaps most recently throughout the whole first season of HBO’s True Detective. Give it a shot, and soon you too will be asking people, “Have you seen the Yellow Sign?”

Coming soon! Maitland Cecil Melville Wills (1891-1966) was a prolific English writer of crime fiction who wrote under the name Cecil M. Wills. Half of his twenty-six novels feature the sleuthing character Geoffrey Boscobell, who begins his career as a Station Sergeant in Wills’ first book Author in Distress. Ramble House is proud to bring back this intricate and intriguing murder mystery for 21st-Century connoisseurs of the Whodunnit. This edition is enhanced by a new introduction by crime fiction enthusiast and genre fiction researcher J. F. Norris.

“The case of the century” was how the Press described the weird mystery that centred around “The Bat”, a ghoul of the air who, in his efforts to perfect an almost incredible invention, swooped down to kill without mercy. Three victims. Each might have identified the terrorist had they lived, but their violent deaths robbed Bill Donaldson, Scotland Yard’s leading sleuth, of all chance of solution. Yet the murderer made one false step, and brilliant detective work completed his downfall. Packed with excitement, ‘The Air Killer’ drives forward at a fast tempo to a climax of heightened drama. A grand yarn which is in every respect worthy of “James Corbett’s genius as an inventor of thrills.”
