One of Wörthersee’s most iconic landmarks: the Stone GTI

Carved from a 25 ton block of Swedish granite in 1987, this Volkswagen Golf Mk2 sculpture is more than just a car monument. It became one of the true symbols of European automotive culture.

The legendary Wörthersee Treffen started in 1981 as a small gathering of GTI enthusiasts. Over the years, it evolved into one of Europe’s biggest automotive festivals, bringing together not only Golf owners, but also Audi, SEAT, Škoda and the entire VAG community. Every year, tens of thousands of enthusiasts traveled to Reifnitz to celebrate car culture.

The Stone GTI itself was damaged over time, temporarily removed from its location, and even transported to Wolfsburg by Volkswagen in 2017. After restoration work, it was placed back at Wörthersee, where it still stands today as a monument to GTI culture and automotive passion.
