Busy Saturday mornings just feel right in the summer time!

@laurelbhorsetraining working some of the client horses along with lots of productive lessons.

We are also so excited to announce that we have added a second lesson horse to the program! We had so much demand for lessons that Misty alone could not keep up with it.

Lucy is an experienced dressage horse who has most recently been teaching western lessons in Florida, and we are so excited to have her join us.

We also have a horse that is available for a care lease. If you’re looking to get more rides in but do not want to take the full ownership of a horse, leases are a perfect way to balance both. Very affordable opportunity for the right rider.

Reach out for details or to schedule a lesson

This is the part of dressage that keeps me going.

When a horse and rider begin to really work together to find harmony and relaxation, everything else begins to come together beautifully. The horse never lies, so let them tell you if you’re on the right path.

Laurel’s growth as a dressage rider also has been so wonderful to witness. She came into the program very experienced and with a degree from Meredith Manor but began to think about how to interact with the horses differently using classical dressage and just 🤩

Why do dressage trainers lunge green horses so often?

Because lunging is how we check in with the horse!

Green horses have so much new happening with them every day (changes in their muscles, moods, attitudes, and how they handle new challenges) that it is important to check in with them often.

We use lunging to help us see if they are feeling tight or more stressed before asking them to try new things with us.

We always want riding to be a positive and healthy experience for the horse, so it is important to make sure that they feel ready to ride when they are in the early stages of training.

As the horse gets more confident and strong, we slowly phase out lunging and move towards riding for longer periods.

Want to learn more about lunging as a training tool in Classical dressage?

We have open training spots on site and I offer virtual lessons.

We have been hard at work getting ready for the warm weather!

Currently, we only have availability for haul in or virtual lessons as we are otherwise booked up!

We are going to have another open lesson day on April 12 so keep an eye out for that event on Facebook!!!!

The weather is finally turning for the better, which means haul in lessons are available once more! As one of only a few Grand Prix trainers in Iowa, I always get so excited to offer lessons to new students!

Whether you are a dressage rider, eventer, or a rider just interested in finding better balance and harmony with your horse, my program is open for all. I have worked with gaited horses, barrel racers, and so much more. I just enjoy teaching people how to better understand their horse and work together toward a common goal

Lessons are $75 for 45 minutes, and just reach out to schedule!

We are sadly still CLOSED today due to the icy conditions around the barn. Our horses remain tucked up tight while the pasture and walkways defrost.

But! Nothing stopping us from having fun anyway! And Assistant Trainer @laurelbhorsetraining got everyone out for a good groom and rub down to keep their muscles happy.

Stay safe everyone!

Thank you to those who were able to swing by our open lessons! We will offer more of these come spring (cause brrrr it’s getting cold).

Everyone did a great job, and we had some fantastic takeaways. From learning how to manage a young hot horse after a cold snap to working your way through being anxious after a bad fall and learning how to better manage your aids, each lesson was unique and helpful.

We hope to see more of you in the spring!

Both of our full restart horses are now under tack thanks to the help of @laurelbhorsetraining and a strong commitment from our entire team.

These two horses came to us with similar issues despite drastically different personalities. Ollie and Dani both had ignored tension that slowly made them more explosive and difficult to predict.

Through methodical training, I began to teach both of them how to work through their tension and find relaxation, and both were mounted immediately prior to my stroke in March.

While I was recovering, their owners and my assistant trainers kept working on their ground training, but took a step back from the mounted work while I recovered. Recently, they both felt ready for a rider once more, and Laurel has done a phenomenal job helping them bring relaxation from the ground training and into the tack.

These horses have a bright future ahead of them. Dou have a tense horse that can become unpredictable? Reach out to schedule lessons with us (haul in available or virtual) to find ways to help you both relax.

A busy Saturday for us!!! @laurelbhorsetraining brought by a sale horse she is working with to practice her in-hand work. This young mare by Sempatico is going to be a pleasure to work with. We would keep her if we could!!! (In fact, someone should buy her and enroll her in the program).

And Heather is gaining confidence back in the tack with every ride!!! Her goal is to start trotting this week, but she’s already working on Misty maintaining a soft jaw when working (one handed and everything).

Misty also gave her adult ammy a fantastic ride before their upcoming show debut!

Why do we love groundwork so much?!?

Because it is important to establish relaxation with your horse from the ground up. If a horse cannot trot balanced and relaxed while being lunged, why would they be capable of it with a rider on their back?

A solid foundation begins with a horse capable of moving and relaxing on their own, and only then may a rider be beneficial.

We can help coach you through this common problem both virtually and in person. Located near Cedar Rapids and 20 miles from Iowa City
