Dear Friends, Join me in celebrating my mother @growplusglow ✨

This amazing girl whom I get to call ‘mother’ has been shortlisted for the 2025 South African Literary Awards (SALA) for her isiXhosa (now available in English) poetry collection uNobuntu. 💃🏽🥳🥹🫶🏽

The SALAs are South Africa’s highest literary honor. Over the years, this award has celebrated literary greats like Mongane, Wally Serote, Keorapetse Kgositsile, Nobel Prize winner Nadine Gordimer, Lauretta Ngcobo, Miriam Tlali, Barbara Masekela and many more… writers whose words have “reflected the times”.

To see my mother’s name, Nombeko Nontshokweni, on this years shortlist fills me with awe and WANDA.

Oh mama wam, you’ve believed in this work for so long. God took your pain, and healing and turned into glory and legacy. You kept talking about “this book” for years and years. You remembered your own voice when none had quite heard it as clearly.

Congratulations, ntombiiii. 💐 We are so proud of you, so proud to be yours, so proud to witness your courage filled life. I can’t wait to keep seeing what God has in store for you.
