Today in Marseillan, it’s a chilly 13°C, with thunderstorms and rain forecast for pretty much the entire day. A bit of a slap in the face, and perhaps a sign that the prolonged, hot summer of 2026 is finally coming to an end.

So, here’s a little flashback to a sunnier, warmer afternoon on my rooftop, when my tomato plants were almost as tall as me and my sunflowers 🌻 had already lived their best lives… before I gave them the chop.

This time of year fruit flies drive me crazy! The vinegar traps have caught a lot but always swallow a few and a few run into my eye every year 😵‍💫 🪰🪰🏆🥇😂
Now back to our Harry Potter marathon!

It’s always fun when @growveg visits your garden.

What an honour. We’ve learned so much from Ben over the years. And now he’s standing in our backyard filming with us.

We talked vertical gardening, containers, raised beds, and how we grow food in a small space.

The full video is out now on YT. Link in bio.

I think it’s time I journaled what I get up to in all of my spare time, so I’ve hijacked this account to use it as my personal blog of my growing adventures!

When I look back at old photos, of just a couple of years ago, I am amazed how much we’ve achieved with this garden, and how much I’ve learnt about growing organic food.

So if this account can inspire just a couple of people to start growing their own food, I would be so over the moon. I’ll also be sharing the food I make with the garden produce.

I would love you to follow along and I’ve tagged some of the people who’ve taught me everything I know about growing food over the last few years on the last photo, so go give them a follow if this is your thing!!

Tomato eclipse.

I was out here yesterday around 18:30, picking another batch of tomatoes, whilst the Moon was making its way to align itself directly between our Earth (western Europe) and the mighty Sun.

Amazing.

Today’s garden harvest of new potatoes and fresh peas.
…
This is one of my favourite summer tasks. There may be a quicker way to do it but if there is I don’t want to know, because this is such a relaxing way to spend time and a bit like gardening itself, digging the soil, planting the seeds, watering, weeding and harvesting it’s gloriously therapeutic to get lost in the art of shelling peas.

Filmed on April 26th

Planting out seed grown sweetcorn and white French beans, with sunflower and marigold companion plants.

In this video, I removed the leftover plants and invasive growth from winter, added an organic fertiliser and some fresh manure-rich soil, then planted 4 sweetcorn, 5 white French beans, 1 sunflower, and 1 marigold. I also put in some bamboo stakes and added a top layer of dry straw to help retain moisture.

Now, all that's left to do is water when needed, observe, and guide the plants along their journey. Some plants take off and thrive, some don't make it all, and others need a little extra help. Every year I learn a bit more, adjusting my methods and adapting to the space and conditions I have available. Watch until the end to see how this pot is looking now.

I don't have a large growing space, but I can still get involved and enjoy growing some of my own food. For me, the process is incredibly fun and satisfying. I'm making good use of the space I have while also creating a safe habitat for the insects and wildlife that find their way here.

That's a win-win-win for everyone involved.
