🎬✨ FROM 1970 TO 2026 — THE CHILDREN’S SPANISH VOICES ARE STILL SINGING. 🎶

In 1970, Aida Barrera created Carrascolendas, one of the most important bilingual Spanish-English children’s television programs in the United States, with a mission to bring Spanish, culture, and our heritage to new generations.

Five decades later, the voices and the faces have changed — but the importance of keeping our Spanish, our culture, and our voices alive remains.

For the past five years, Karen Sandoval and Música Libre have shared that same mission — bringing our Spanish, our music, and our culture to new generations while creating communities where our children can grow, connect, and keep their voices strong and heard.

And now, seeing our Música Libre children singing Carrascolendas in 2026 feels incredibly meaningful.

To have our children sing this beautiful song alongside Grupo Fantasma is an incredible honor.

The faces are different.
The children are different.
The world is different.

But the spirit is still here.

Our hearts are filled with pride — and our eyes with tears — seeing our children become part of a story that began more than five decades ago.

What an honor to be part of this extraordinary production.

Joe, thank you for believing in this vision and making this beautiful production possible.

Mariana, thank you for believing in us and bringing us into this incredible moment.

And PBS, thank you for continuing to create space for multicultural voices, stories, languages, and cultures to be seen and heard.

To our Música Libre families and students: this moment belongs to you. ❤️

For five years, we have been building community, celebrating our culture, and giving our children a place to sing in Spanish and let their voices be heard.

And we will keep going.

Because our voices are strong.
Our culture is alive.
And our children have a story to tell.

1970 → 2026
The song continues.
The voices continue.
And our Spanish is still singing. 🎶🌎❤️

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month.

¡Que viva nuestra cultura, nuestro idioma, nuestra música y nuestras voces! ❤️🎶🌎

- Latin Psychedelia -

This curated collection bridges the gap between the organic warmth of traditional Latin rhythms and the trippy, experimental textures of psychedelic music. It delivers a sophisticated blend of hypnotic grooves, atmospheric soundscapes, and intricate instrumentation that redefines conventional genre boundaries.

* Sonic Composition: A seamless integration of percussive Latin grooves with swirling guitars and dreamy, ambient effects.
* Atmosphere: Soulful, introspective, and mysterious, prioritizing flowing audio landscapes over high-energy tempos.
* Ideal Application: Well-suited for creative work sessions, evening contemplation, or as an unconventional backdrop for social gatherings.

List of artists:

Agrupación Ilegal Los Imparciales (@losimparciales): South American tropical project blending traditional cumbia with dub-infused psychedelic textures.

Chicha Libre (@chichalibre): Brooklyn-based band combining 1970s Peruvian chicha, Amazonian melodies, surf rock, and psych.

Willie Bobo: Legendary Puerto Rican-American percussionist blending Afro-Cuban rhythms with Latin soul and jazz-fusion.

Eddie Palmieri (@eddiepalmieri): Grammy-winning pianist and bandleader known for innovative salsa, Latin jazz, and experimental tropical arrangements.

The Animeros (@theanimeros): Modern ensemble recreating the retro, danceable groove of classic 45rpm Latin records.

Fania All Stars: Legendary salsa collective formed by Fania Records that shaped global Latin culture in the late 1960s.

Cal Tjader: American Latin jazz pioneer who brought the vibraphone and marimba to the forefront of cool jazz and mambo.

Mongo Santamaría: Cuban conguero who fused Afro-Cuban rhythms with American jazz, R&B, and soulful crossover hits.

Grupo Fantasma (@grupofantasma): Multi-Grammy-winning Austin orchestra mixing contemporary funk, psych-rock, cumbia, and salsa.

Ahhh what a blast it was to pay tribute to PRINCE with the mighty @grupofantasma! We sold out @antonesnightclub and raised a lot for @simsfoundation, my favorite non-profit providing mental health support to music people. Mega thanks to @nakia @thebackstagebrain and all the incredible musicians and staff who made it an absolute banger!

Ten years is a mighty long time 2 carry something in your heart. We finally let it out, and y’all showed up.

Because of u, Antone’s sold out & then some, and SIMS Foundation will be able 2 provide 47 therapy visits or two days of residential treatment for Austin musicians in need. That’s real. That matters.

Thank u 2 the one and only @antonesnightclub for holding space for something this big and this sacred. Thank u 2 every musician and DJ who gave everything they had on that stage. Thank u 2 @howmuchatx for being our home in the weeks leading up 2 this. And thank u 2 @miriamrice_photo for capturing all of it so beautifully — every one of these photos is proof that something special happened in that room.

Austin, do u really want 2 wait ten years for us 2 do this again?
