David Hackl has driven Laguna Seca, Mt. Washington, and Pikes Peak in the same 1983 Audi Quattro, and he has a story for each. In our new interview, he talks about his first Gridlife, what it took to get a 650 whp widebody Quattro up a foggy mountain in New Hampshire, and the friend who built the engine and is still on his mind every time he gets behind the wheel.

What is the most memorable car you have ever driven, and who got you into it? Tell us in the comments, and read the full interview at the link in our bio.

If you know Pikes Peak Hill Climb, you know this machine. David Hackl’s 1983 Audi Quattro has been ripping up the mountain since 2012, and it’s officially making its way to Laguna Festival to compete in TrackBattle. Powered by a classic 2.5L Audi Inline-5 engine running on E85, this 2700 lb AWD turbocharged legend is built for the hill and ready for the track. Make sure to look out for this gem on track and in the paddock.

Don’t have tickets yet? Buy now and save before the price jump on Monday at 12pm PT. 🎟️🔗 in bio.

The Audi’s are seen here resting in their natural habitat before the long journey up the mountain.
