One of my favorite memories of Mom:

Mom Loved @rosecitycc sooo much, She adopted Ming Chen
1. She bought him #VoodooDoughnuts for breakfast, since it was his first time in Portland
2. Made me run up to his booth to bring him napkins, cause his hands will get sticky
Yeah, con-life she's hooked

Sept 2017, Nanay in between treatment series 1 and series 2. My brother is visiting so we're showing him the sites.

Earlier in the year I found this great barbeque food truck when the Sub Vets were meeting at the VFW nearby. I would drive cross town early and get a bite to eat. Pretty sure this is the first time Nanay came with me.

She taught me - "Always bring joy to any relationship, even transactional... Make someone smile or laugh... It makes a difference."

No one knows how hard that first year or the following years except Nanay, my wife and I. She taught me to "Fight Gracefully"

Live Passionately,
Fight Courageously,
Love Completely,
Fight with Dignity,
Always In The Fight,
Bring it Every Day,
Speak your mind,
Don't settle,
Our responsibility to make sure there are no Regrets,
When Life throws a Curve, Down Shift and Accelerate at the Apex,
Be Happy.

Speak from the heart, and live with no regrets.

US Submariners spend their entire time in Service fighting not only the Enemies foreign and domestic of the United States, but also against Physics and Nature.

We are ingrained with this knowledge and thus make lifelong friends with those who we served with.

Surviving our time in Service to this great Nation means that everything afterwards is just icing on the cake.

Everything that we have and generate after Service is easier because we survived the crushing pressure of the ocean and the threat of our enemies.

Every time we come up against an obstacle...

Like Diabetes... we know our technology and knowledge is superior, so its just another thing trying to kill us... we acknowledge and survive...

Like uncontrolled Epistaxis... we know that the crushing depth was survivable, breathing while submerged for months on end is possible, so its just another thing trying to kill us... we acknowledge and survive...

Like being a Mutant... having a genetic mutation, unlike in comic books and sci-fi, it doesn't grant super powers... unless Sarcasm and thick skin is counted as a power... though it more likely increases the chances of some types of Cancer by 50%... we know that the 2/3 of the world is Oceans and submarines only operate in about 9-10 % of it... so its just another thing trying to kill us... we acknowledge and survive ...

Every time we come up against an obstacle ... We Acknowledge and Survive by living and loving fully... making memories every day... cherishing friends and family...

We know that sacrificing our young adulthood made a difference and we are glad to have everything afterwards, every relationship and every moment post Service is icing on the cake... that Dash between the Dates is meaningful.

We know that our Watch will be over and we will be relieved. We Salute the oncoming generation and pass on the Watch to them as this is the Natural order... This is the Way.

As we did in the Service... Look forward to the Watch Relief. Live as if its Battle Stations... always Man the Watch Stations with the best. That final Maneuvering Watch will come...We will have no regrets...
