This old pumping station once drew water from the river to irrigate the orchards of the Biodiversity Heritage Site (BHS)—a reminder of a time when people worked with nature, not against it.

Beside it stands a majestic old tamarind tree, silently witnessing decades of history.

Today, as the river flows at its fullest, you can clearly see what a true riparian forest looks like. We are standing within the river's blue line, where the river naturally spreads during the monsoon.

These native forests are not obstacles to development—they are the river's lifeline. They prevent erosion, filter pollutants, support biodiversity, recharge groundwater, and protect our future.

Nature already has the perfect design. We simply need to respect it.

Leave riparian forests alone. Let the river flow. Let the forests thrive. Let nature heal itself. 🌿💙

When the river is in full flow, this is what a healthy riparian ecosystem looks like.

I'm standing inside one of the last remaining riparian forests at the Biodiversity Heritage Site (BHS), right on the riverbank. Across the river, you can still see the same natural forest that has protected this ecosystem for decades.

The soil beneath my feet isn't just mud—it is nature's flood protection system. It absorbs excess rainwater, stores moisture, recharges groundwater, and reduces flooding. The trees here stabilize the riverbank, filter pollutants, and support countless birds, insects, and wildlife.

If this entire stretch is concretized and replaced with a road, these vital wetland functions will disappear. Rainwater will no longer soak into the ground. Flood risk will increase, groundwater recharge will reduce, and a thriving natural ecosystem will be lost.

For years, we have tried to "engineer" rivers with concrete. The results are visible everywhere—hotter cities, poorer biodiversity, and rivers that have lost their natural ability to heal themselves.

This is not just about saving trees. It is about protecting a living ecosystem that protects us.

"Utilities" become an excuse only when it's time to cut trees.

When Metro projects need underground construction, utility lines are somehow relocated, managed, or worked around without stopping the project.

But when it comes to saving trees, suddenly we're told, "Utilities are in the way."

The real question is:
Why is innovation reserved for infrastructure, but not for environmental protection?

Utility departments dig roads whenever they need to, often multiple times in the same place. If underground utilities can be shifted, redesigned, or accommodated for projects, why can't the same effort be made to protect mature trees?

Development and environmental protection are not opposing goals. What is missing is planning, coordination, and the will to prioritize both.

Trees should not become the easiest sacrifice for administrative convenience.

Some movies are made to entertain. Others are made to make you think.

Out of Syllabus – Beyond the Books is one of those rare films that feels incredibly relevant to the times we live in. Watching it, I couldn't help but relate every scene to the ground work we do through ChaloPMC.

One message that resonated deeply with me is something Ameet Singh has always said: real solutions don't come from simply approaching politicians. They come from understanding the system, questioning institutions, and becoming informed citizens.

The film also leaves us with a powerful reminder: Nature is not anyone's slave. If we continue to exploit it, nature will respond—and perhaps the floods, heat waves, and environmental disasters we see today are already that response.

🌧️ Not even a single drop of water has been released from the dams... yet Pune's rivers are already full.

Today's rain is a reminder that the problem isn't just rainfall—it's the way we've built our city.

100 mm of rainfall over just 1 sq. km is equivalent to nearly 10,000 water tankers of water.

Now imagine that across 350 sq. km of Pune.

That's around 35 lakh (3.5 million) water tankers worth of rain falling on a city that is rapidly turning into concrete.

Where will all this water go?

Without soil, wetlands, and green cover to absorb it, rainwater rushes into drains and rivers, resulting in flooding instead of groundwater recharge.

Trees are nature's most effective water management system. They slow down rainfall, increase infiltration, recharge groundwater, reduce flooding, and help secure our water future.

Protect trees. Protect Pune.

Once upon a time, our water came directly from wells.

The well would silently teach us a simple lesson: "Water is precious. Use it wisely, because what you take today must be replenished for tomorrow."

Because we could see the source, we understood its limits.

Today, water flows from a tap. We no longer see where it comes from, so we assume it is endless.

But when the taps run dry, we call tankers.

And where do the tankers get their water from?

The same wells.

The source has not changed—only our awareness has.

The farther we move from nature, the easier it becomes to forget that every drop is borrowed from the earth. If we continue to consume without thought, one day even the wells that feed our tankers will run dry.

Water does not become unlimited just because it comes through a pipe.

The well is still teaching us the same lesson.

The question is: Are we still listening?
