Patagonia San Francisco, we 🫶 you. 🌊

The @patagoniasf crew keeps showing up for us this year, from dune restoration and beach cleanups to surf exhibition water safety, setting up supplies early in the morning, helping coordinate volunteers, and always bringing the joy. We are eternally grateful for your partnership.

Will, Beau, Sonya, Liz, Max, V, and the entire crew, thank you for being part of this community and for showing up for our coast. 💙🌊

🌊 HUGE thank you to our incredible volunteers! 🎆

Over July 5th & 6th, 100 dedicated volunteers braved the cold and fog for our post-4th of July Ocean Beach cleanups, hauling in over 350 pounds of trash from Balboa to Sloat, including over 300 fireworks and 800 cigarette butts. 🧨🚬

Our beach is cleaner because of YOU. Thank you for showing up and caring for this place we all love. 💙

Special shoutout to @everymanjack, our July 5th cleanup sponsor, our cleanup captains Ash, Lindsay, and Mike, and our 6th of July cleanup sponsor, Serent Capital! 👏🧼🌊

Another epic beach clean-up hosted by @surfridersf in collaboration with @everymanjack.
.
As always, this clean-up was all about collecting data that will help us speak knowledgeably about what is happening at our beaches (plus an incredible excuse to soak in what feels like the first ☀️ during this #SanFranciscoSummer).
.
It was rad to learn more about @everymanjack , and their commitment to sustainability (plus every volunteer got to take home some delicious-smelling, outdoors-inspired cold-pressed bar soap).
.
@surfridersf hosts these beach cleanups every first Sunday of the month, so consider joining in on the fun and starting next month out at the beach (giving back to our beaches)! #beachcleanup #sf #oceanbeach #noplastics

You aren’t too small to make an impact! This week’s #beachcleanup with @surfridersf reminded me that we don’t have to be scientists or professional engineers to make observations, ask questions, and turn our curiosity into action when we notice something that seems off in our environment.
.
This week’s cleanup included a beach tour with the #oceanbeachinstitute and guest speaker, a longtime surfer and engineer, where we asked questions based on what we (just your ordinary beach lovers) were noticing about the shoreline, the waves, and past armament solutions. The lesson that I took away is that just because you’re not working for the government or the city or as a scientist or civil engineer, doesn’t mean that your observations can’t help inform and advance better solutions!
.
Late last year I watched a short documentary about a man who retired and fell in love with watching hummingbirds in the forest outside his house. His detailed observations about how they nested, how they returned to the same spots to nest, and more ended up helping advance research about these little birds. I took my first nature journaling workshop with @sutro.stewards and now thanks to this past weekend with @surfridersf I’m inspired to jot down what I see. I hope you are too! If you notice something, don’t discount your observations! Take note. Stay curious. Ask questions. And access resources at @surfridersf and the Ocean Beach Institute!
