By a Thread ✂️🇳🇬

Dr. Ade Ogundimu’s mixed media painting captures the emotional tension between unity and division in Nigeria’s history. A fragile thread holds the Biafran region from drifting away, with rusty scissors poised above, a symbol of both threat and choice.

Will we cut the last tie or pull the nation back together? The choice is ours.

🎵 Music: You Know by Jeff Kaale
Video: Nigeria Art Society UK

🖼️ On view at Legacies of Biafra exhibition, Iwalewahaus, Bayreuth, until Oct 4, 2025.

What would you do if holding the last thread?

➡️ Vote and tell us why in the comments!

This outstanding installation “Willesden Green to Abeokuta” by Ade Ogundimu @gudums definitely one of my favourites at this year's @154artfair. A powerful metaphor representing forced childhood migration to "Back Home" and the discovery of pre colonial greatness.

The Nigeria Art Society UK (NASUK) is pleased to announce their participation at 1-54 London from October 10th to 13th, presenting Waves of Change: Artistic Journeys from Nigeria to Britain, an exhibition tracing the artistic journeys of Nigerian artists who made their home in the UK.
Since the mid-20th century onwards, these artists have explored complex identities, addressing Britain’s colonial past while celebrating Nigerian culture celebrating the breadth and depth of artistic expression. Inspired by the iconic MV Aureol which brought many West Africans to Britain, the show will feature paintings, sculpture, and mixed media works investing themes of migration, identity, and social change. The exhibition will include works by members of the Nigeria Art Society UK alongside paintings and prints by Uzo Egonu, who began his art career in the UK during the mid-1940s

Congratulations to my five professional doctorate students who have just passed their vivas. Their impressive final exhibitions were the result of years of hard work, commitment, good humour, curiosity, talent and bravery. Very proud of what they’ve achieved and wishing them all success in the future.
