“And now we land at the new version of ‘Before’. Interestingly, these vocals were not recorded super recently - they’re about five-ish years old. Mol was smoking then; her voice holds a bit of a rasp she says she wanted to retain. Those five years still make an impressionable difference. In the original, she was bemoaning consequences, the edges still felt raw. Now, she is telling a story, a cautionary tale, that feels weighty and valuable. Regardless, Mol is respectful of her former self, even while she holds her under a magnifying glass.

The 2024 ‘Before’ arrangement is more mature, more layered, more complex. The production also reflects the “indie” sound of 2024, rather than that of 2014. The surf-y guitar vibes are updated, tighter; the spare quality of the original is filled out here with broader instrumental and effects context.

Mol still plumbs the same human emotions - jealousy, envy, nostalgia, regret - but there’s a new depth to them, granted not only by virtue of the passage of time, but of personal change and growth. Her lyrical content is likely to be more tender, too, for her longtime listeners; we have also grown up. Perspective is everything.” - Leyla Shokoohe

A Little Hello!
My first EP and fully-produced body of work EVER is out today.
.
Y’all, I have been writing and performing since I was eighteen. This is long overdue but also couldn’t feel more like the perfect time.
To try and express how full of gratitude I am for the people around me who have believed in me for years and to the newer faces that have been down to help see this thing to fruition seems impossible. I’m floored by the amount of talented people who choose to work with me. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
I also feel the need to express that don’t even know if I would be here today if it weren’t for the miracle of getting off alcohol. My life was saturated to the point of not being able to contain anything other than the stuff. So thankful to have had the veil lifted to make way for the good stuff, like this EP, for example 🤡
.
I hit the road with my incredible band today, @drobiwan_coroni @gene_christopher @oldpathwhiteclouds … we would love to see ya if we are coming to your neck of the woods.
.
Endless love for my longtime collaborator and literal babydoll @drobiwan_coroni who recorded these songs with me.

A LITTLE HELLO
EP out Feb. 3 on @ruinationrecordco

‘A Little Hello’ single out now 🌟

“The opener and title track is an appropriate how-do-you-do: a plucky piano-driven tune about taking a chance on love, with playful flutters of country guitar, some Feist-like bounce, and lithe, McCartney-esque melodicism. A major surprise, though, comes in the form of an introspective bridge that reminiscences on past romantic dysfunction: “Tornadoes, what I was used to/But I never felt the breeze.” The contrast between sections makes the song a perfect microcosm of Sullivan’s songwriting style, mixing levity and a lust for life with a hard-won knowledge of the weight of the world.”

Digital and cassette preorders are now available over at the RRco. bandcamp.
