7月に続き、象の鼻テラスで開催の現代手工業乃党 presents「First Steps： Sign Painting Workshop by Gumbo Signs」 Supported by Letterboy サインペインティング、知ってる？

Letterheads in Amsterdam was amazing! Back and settling into the usual rhythm of things now, but am still a little dizzy with joy and want to remember this feeling for a long time to come. Back in March, Sam Roberts wrote a note in a @betterletters newsletter saying that registration was about to open, and gently encouraging people newer to the craft to consider going. It was a short little note, but it made me want to go so intensely that for once, I didn’t stop to (over)think, I just followed an impulse. Thank you Sam—you were right, it really was rocket fuel. I’m inspired and excited and motivated and so glad to have gone. …that being said, in the lead up I was so nervous about being too new to be there that I talked myself out of going at least 6 times. But my anxiety has never been more wrong — everyone was kind and welcoming and generous with their knowledge, and just so full of enthusiasm for lettering, and it was wildly encouraging to be part of it. Thank you @amsterdamsignpainters for organizing such an incredible weekend, and to everyone who participated—and especially big thanks to @forinosigns and @letterluxe_signs for answering my million and one questions, showing me countless tricks, and continuing to be the best and kindest teachers, nearly a year out from that workshop. I loved getting to paint next to you. As for these pictures: I took almost no pictures of anything I worked on so my photo roll is all other people’s gorgeous work, chaotic snapshots of concepts for future reference…and then just a bunch of canals at night. So there’s some of all of that, with tags where I know them, and descriptions in a comment below! #amsterdamletterheads #letterheads

The 51st! ✨ Being surrounded by so many awesome panels and their artists was at first quite daunting as a rookie sign painter, but I quickly overcame my imposter syndrome and just went with the flow. 🥸 Walking around, being able to closely look at the ideas, process and techniques, getting to know people, brushing elbows with some of my signwriter heroes and feeling part of a very welcoming community has truly been a blessing. 🙏 I’ve tried my hand at a few panels myself (find them in the last slides), and even though they’re far from perfect, I had fun making them. They also laid bare that I have (and want!) to work more on my basic strokes, brush control and layout skills. But that’s the fun of it anyway, isn’t it? 😁 #signpainting #signwriting #letterheads #handpainted #lettering

Back to real life after spending the weekend with 210 painters from 22 countries at Amsterdam Letterheads! 🇳🇱 I painted a panel inspired by the beautiful squinty houses along the canals and included the booze cruise boat from the first day bid on by @delicious_signs 🚤 Hana and I were chuffed to take home pieces by @gumbo_signs @letter_boy piece and @tim_sake_lastplak ! Massive thanks to @amsterdamsignpainters for hosting such a brilliant event - I’m continually in awe of how friendly and supportive the community is and come home feeling so inspired! Letterheads forever!!! #amsterdamletterheads #letterheads2026

Amsterdam Letterheads ‘26 workshops 🤍 I’m still processing. This has been such a treasure trove of information, both in the theoretical and practical sense. Seeing great artists I look up to happily sharing their tips & tricks, inside as well as outside of workshops, has been invaluable and monumentally inspiring. 🙏 When Pierre Tardif talks about running a sign painting business and drawing layouts it makes me want to be more than a hobbyist. And having @kngee and @letter_boy show and tell about brush control and constructing single stroke letterforms was an absolute eye opener. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, it will all be put to good use 🙇‍♂️ Big shoutout to @amsterdamsignpainters for organizing the 51st. I had a blast! #signpainting #signwriting #handpainted #IOAFS #letterheads
