The last 20 years of my life stood in one room. My heart overflows with gratitude for my Elliott, who pulled it all together in just seven days after I dragged my feet for weeks. At times, I’m overwhelmed by the sheer abundance of love surrounding me. At times (most times), I wrestle with the question of whether I deserve it. Whether I am worthy of receiving such devotion. But this celebration reached places in me that needed healing, lifting, and affirmation. I was reminded of who I am—and why I am here. Y’all, I’m crying. What a divine way to welcome a new decade. ❤️

After what was probably my emotionally rawest adult year, a new one begins today with my birthday. I began celebrating last week, back home in South Carolina. Under wide, country skies, my parents sang happy birthday to me like I was ten again. I drank and told stories with classmates and friends I’ve had now for over 30 years. We ate thick grits, line-danced, and laughed until our faces hurt. And the first thing I did when I returned to New York this past Monday was meet my best friend for the opening of Harlem’s brand new art museum. We got a chance to reflect together on the year we had. And how much had changed. Today, on my birthday, I woke up in one of my favorite places in the world, and with my favorite person in the world. All things a much younger me in Blackville, SC would dream about. Most every other day this year, I’ve had some level of distress at how cruel this world can be. But how grateful I am on this day for continued life, for all of the beautiful memories I get to continue making with people I love, and for being able to share some of those memories here with all of you. 💫

This time last year at 10:20am, I crossed the start line of the NYC Marathon along with thousands of runners from around the world. What a journey it was. Supported by family, friends, and so much love, I made it to the finish line of one of the greatest races on earth. The truth is—the training is far more challenging than race day itself. It taught me perseverance, grit, and dedication… core skills you need to accomplish anything when life gets hard. Because let’s be honest: if you don’t train and stay focused, the race will absolutely suck (lol). And even when you do train well, there are still those moments in the middle where you ask yourself: whose idea was this? But then you remember who you are, what you’re made of, and just how much you can do. Crossing that finish line wasn’t just about the 26.2 miles—it was about the memories, the strength, and the confidence it gave me for everything else in life. A huge thank you to those who climbed endless subway steps, fought the crowds with posters, traveled across boroughs, and somehow made it to multiple cheer spots just to hug me, scream my name, and push me forward when I needed it most. To the ending surprise—I love you immensely, thank you. And to my first BFF, my mom, who is always down to support me—thank you for being my forever cheer squad. ❤️ Cheers to the 2025 NYC Marathon runners—you’ve got this! May you carry the same lessons of perseverance, strength, and joy across your own finish line
