It’s All Right (It’s Christmas) OUT NOW in aid of @stmungos

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

🎶 🇬🇧🇪🇺 What do Brussels, Alt-J and a circle of ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ have in common?

We asked @GusUnger why music sounds better with you, and why making it easier for artists to perform across Europe benefits audiences on both sides of the Channel.

Earlier this month, we were in Brussels sponsoring the @ukmisbrussels event, Music Sounds Better with You, alongside @ifpi_org. Together with our EU partners, we explored practical ways to strengthen cooperation across the UK–EU music ecosystem.

At the UK Ambassador’s Residence, we were joined by policymakers, creators and music industry leaders for a day of discussion on the future of the sector. Our Chief of Strategy, Communications and Public Affairs Officer, John Mottram, chaired the music metadata roundtable exploring how better metadata and rights information can support fairer payment and clearer licensing across global markets.

During the evening showcase, remarks from the British Ambassador to the EU, Caroline Wilson and the UK Minister for Creative Industries, Media and Online Safety, Ian Murray MP, underlined the importance of working together to keep the music sector open, accessible and international, while breaking down barriers to cultural exchange. Performances at Ancienne Belgique by PRS members @benjamindiamond, as well as PRS Foundation grantees @venusgrrrls and @thesnuts, offered a powerful reminder of the talent and music that crosses borders.

It’s clear the UK and the EU have a shared ambition for greater collaboration for the benefit of artists and crew on both sides of the Channel - now it’s time to turn that ambition into action. #FixEUtouring

🎶 🇬🇧🇪🇺 Music sounds better together

Yesterday we brought policymakers, artists and industry leaders from across Europe to Brussels for our Music Sounds Better With You forum, exploring how we can support talent, improve mobility and help music reach new audiences across borders.

Thank you to UK Music Champion @michael.dugher , moderator @andrewlansley and our panellists Alastair Jones (DCMS), Georg Häusler (European Commission), @gusunger (Alt-J) and Mick Ross (@generatorhq) for an inspiring forum on the future of music.

And after a day of discussion, it was time for the music itself 🎸

A fantastic evening at Ancienne Belgique, opened by @dcmsgovuk UK Minister for Creative Industries @ianmurraymp & UK Ambassador to the EU Caroline Wilson, featuring performances from @VENUSGRRRLS, @BenjaminDiamond and @TheSnuts, celebrating the creativity and collaboration that connect the UK and Europe.

Special thanks to @PRSforMusic, @IFPI_EU, @FeaturedArtistsCoalition, @thebritishmusicembassy and @ABconcerts for helping bring it all together.

The last piece of the puzzle, and it’s a great one - our Leeds Welcome Talk 🥹

Can’t believe our campus is officially two years in, and what an electric community that it is as proven by this year’s Welcome Talk at @howardassemblyroom.

Huge, huge thanks to our special guest @gusunger - founding member, keyboardist and vocalist of Leeds’ own @unrealaltj - for sharing the real ins and outs of the music industry 🤩

And a big thank you to our fellow @icmpuk student performers, @midas__band, for setting the tone with a brilliant performance ⚡️

The takeaway from our students? You’re ready to collaborate, get hands-on and start building your creative career. We can’t wait to hear what you make!

I don’t even know how to start this post.

Last week I met @gusunger from the band @unrealaltj , a band that means so much to me. When I first listened to An Awesome Wave, my whole perspective of music changed. This album got me through some of the roughest times and I can’t even begin to explain how their music has inspired me. These guys are so unique and so creative with how they make music. Every song on every album is something amazing and different. They are hands down my favourite band of all time.

Meeting Gus was such a special experience for me. It gave me such a boost within myself. I’ve never had a feeling of being star struck before until this moment. It’s made me feel so inspired and I feel so ready for the rest of my degree.

Gus if you see this, thank you for letting me have my fangirl moment. I’m so grateful to have met you and I’m so glad you liked my tattoo 🫶

Also a massive thank you to @icmpuk for making this dream a reality.

Gus Unger-Hamilton is central to Alt-J's atmosphere: keys, harmonies, and the melodic color that helps the band's unusual structures land with real emotion.
