Dear Rouge on their 📼 + the recording of ‘Garbage’:

‘Garbage is a track that came out of life’s difficult paths; a road leading out into nowhere with no foreseeable end. We filmed the video in the heart of the Californian desert in Slab City, just beyond Salvation Mountain. We had no clue that this area would end up meaning so much to us with our new album Lonesome High. We returned 4 times in the span of a year to this spot. The album cover was shot here, and now this video.

It was 40°C throughout the day when we filmed, and I can’t even express how tired the whole experience made me. Yet I felt that it was so metaphorical to the experience of writing this song and the inspiration it took to get me there. Even recording the vocals for the song was difficult, as I was 7 months pregnant and sick. It ended up being the last song we recorded vocals for in the studio with Gus van Go.

Still, the song came to life, and so did the video. Sometimes life takes you down the most difficult path, but as they say, the journey is always far better than the destination.

Huge thanks to Zachary Vague and Ben Dawson for suffering through the desert heat and howling wind to make this with us. You’re beautiful humans and brilliant creatives. I’m always in awe of what you make.

We are forever grateful to the people who have put their time, hearts and souls into this experience, it really shows. This whole group of musicians is CRAZY talented, legit blew us away -everyone go follow them now! Can’t wait for you all to take over the world with your music 🌎
Thank you to our songwriting team @felishaandthejazzrejects and @gusvango for the most hype songwriting session ever. Literally every time anyone did anything in the studio there would be screams of excitement and dancing. The amount of head banging will forever be carved into my vertebrae (haha)!

Today we released the instrumentals of our debut album Sunshine Makers.

This album was recorded between 2017-2024 (released in 24)
The project took longer than most because of how be many musicians were involved and different MC’s. It was a basement studio project that conceptualized over time. Covid had put a full halt on the recording as well as trying to figure it out what to do with it over time. It truly was a labour of love and a testament to how important the album came to be. My bestie @shaynbarnes and I started our own label called @lovetown_records to release it (we’ve released all our albums). Thanks @littlelumber856 for helping get 🌞 off the ground in the early days ♥️. The instrumental really showcases the collaboration between myself and producer @benfox.mp3 I have such fond memories of building these ideas together, every few weeks I’d call Ben up and say I have another idea and I’d pop by and we would get working on them. Most of the tracks were built up with a drum machine and we’d take turns playing bass, guitar, synths etc. our other main collaborators were @j3msings (keys) and @dennis_complaints_dept (sax) these amazing talents had been with me from the beginning and added so much life to the songs. There wasn’t much real percussion on the album. however, I was able to get one of my favourite drummers @caleparks ( @alohatheband ) on Empathy and Coming Up For Air. @chesterhansenmusic ( @badbadnotgood ) played on Got To Be Good and Baby It’s Yours. The mix was handled by one of the absolute greats @gusvango who took it into that world class place. I’m so proud of this album. Sometimes you can’t look back at your first and feel that way. But, this album paved a new path for me. It gave me the opportunity to truly collaborate with so many artists. The vocal version is doused in features and is a whole other story. I’m happy this recording can be out there representing how it all started and the people who helped make it come to be. Thank you Ben, J3M, Dennis and Gus for seeing this through with me and sharing your time to create with me. I’m forever grateful and thankful to you all. -Brent ✌🏻♥️🌞

@gusvango is a Canadian producer, mixer, musician, and songwriter based in Toronto. He has worked with some of Canada’s most beloved artists — Metric, The Beaches, Arkells, Sam Roberts, and Whitehorse — and, having grown up in Quebec, with French-language legends including Cowboys Fringants, Les Trois Accords, and Robert Charlebois. He is a two-time Juno winner for Best Album and has five Engineer of the Year nominations to his name.

He is best known for co-writing and producing The Beaches’ viral single “Blame Brett,” which spent 12 weeks at #1 in Canada. In 2025, he and longtime collaborator Lowell co-wrote four songs for breakthrough artist Baby Nova, catching the attention of famed American executive Mike Caren, who signed van Go to APG as a songwriter.

This song is called Golden Days and it is out today.

I wrote it during the first few weeks after becoming a parent. I was very VERY sleep deprived and had no idea what to do with a baby but there were moments when everything seemed beyond perfect, so I tried to capture them, I think to try and make them last beyond the short window of life with a young child.

Also I initially wrote it for a movie but they didn’t want it so it’s mine now.

ALSO when I went to record this I still didn’t have bridge lyrics but @mennovers was hanging out with me and said “here you go” out of nowhere with the perfect bridge lyrics.

@bossieperson made this visualizer using home videos she took over the past few years of our lives as parents. It’s impossible for me to be objective about it but I love it a lot.

@gusvango helped me record this and there is simply nobody I trust more to produce music.
