Every tailored piece starts with tailoring fabric. As the dress code of the Met was “tailored for you”, for Heidi Klum who has immense personality and recognizabilty also outside the fashion world, I wanted to make a very minimalistic evening tailored dress, as very often less is more.

For the fabric I went to Gammarreli, who since 1798 have been supplying Popes, Cardinals, Vatican
and best tailors in the world with most luxurious fabrics. That tailored fabric in its’ raw state, embroidered with the details about the fabric on edges from both sides, was wrapped around Heidi’s body and reworked to a bustier dress with a tail that is uncut part of the fabric. That dress is constructed from one solid pieces of fabric, that is technically a challenge, and is adjusted on the waist with a corset as an internal construction. The dress is entirely stitched by hand, giving it a VETEMENTS Couture treatment.

As the DNA of the dress is raw and minimalistic, I wanted Heidi to wear a jewellery piece that is not a necklace but simply a stone that is more impressive than a regular necklace that everyone would be wearing for the red carpet. So we reached out to Lorraine Schwartz, who is famous for big impressive stones, and got a 38 carat D Flawless diamond worth 10 Million Dollars, that we attached on a transparent simple fishing thread, to have the stone float on the neck.

Not every dress needs to be a fairytale story…. sometimes a dress should be just a dress
