Thanks to @miffest_mgga and everyone who joined us last Friday for the Raintown Short Film Competition 2025 Shortlisted Films Showcase under the Open Air Cinema programme! It was a wonderful opportunity for our filmmakers to meet new audiences, bringing their works from Taiping to Kuala Lumpur. Beyond providing a platform for Malaysian filmmakers to create and showcase their films, we also aim to help these films reach new audiences. We believe that a healthy film ecosystem grows not only through filmmakers creating great work, but also by cultivating audiences who are eager to discover and support Malaysian cinema. This year, the Raintown Short Film Competition 2026 has shortlisted the Top 20 films, which will be screened during the 3rd Raintown Film Festival in early September 2026. We warmly welcome everyone to join us in Taiping and discover exciting new works by filmmakers from across Malaysia. Once again, thank you to MIFFest for including us in your prestigious festival this year. Thank you to everyone who chose to spend your Friday night with us, and special thanks to our 4 filmmakers: Kent Tan, Adam Taufiq Suharto, Kuhanraj Rajasingam, and Yeo Jun Yu, for joining the post-screening Q&A session and sharing their experiences with the audience. Last but not least, we at the Raintown Film Festival would like to wish all the filmmakers of the Raintown Short Film Competition continued success on their filmmaking journeys. We hope your films continue to travel, connect with audiences, and inspire meaningful conversations. We look forward to seeing your next film! Photo Credit: @oysteratschool

Are you ready for the Raintown Short Film Competition 2026? We invited Goh Zi Wei @nebulous_inc , one of the Top 10 filmmakers of the Raintown Short Film Competition 2025, to share a message with filmmakers who are planning to participate in this yearโ€™s competition. Zi Wei is one of the rare young filmmakers who is passionate about technology, especially AI filmmaking. As we believe that the birth of cinema is closely linked to the birth of technology, while many reject AI filmmaking, Zi Wei chose instead to learn it, explore it, understand it, and apply it in his short film. We believe that this attitude is what keeps cinema alive. โ€ Goh Zi Weiโ€™s AI short film <Madeleine> won Special Mention Award at the Raintown Short Film Competition 2025 and received the following jury statement from Datoโ€™ Kamil Othman, Liew Suet Fun, and Amen Khalid: โ€œ๐€ ๐ฐ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐œ๐จ๐ง๐œ๐ž๐ข๐ฏ๐ž๐ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐œ๐ญ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ž๐ ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฆ ๐๐ž๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ข๐ญ๐ž ๐ฌ๐ก๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐œ๐จ๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฌ ๐ข๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ง๐š๐ซ๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž. โ€ The Raintown Short Film Competition 2026 will open for submissions in the 1st week of March 2026, featuring a new theme and new regulations.
