2 0 2 0 • THE ROUND UP •

This time last year we were blissfully sailing on a boat along breathtaking Halong Bay, Vietnam. I was in my notice period of my last job, ready to quit corporate life for a bit, and explore freelancing while focusing on performing arts. Little did we know that 2020 had different plans for all of us. So much loss and despair across the world, naturally we want to hate 2020 and forget all about it. But the year forced us to introspect, make sense, evolve; and I’ve had much to be grateful for:

1. Embraced learning - I threw myself into every chance to pick up knowledge this year that I could find, especially with regards to dance. I found an incredible mentor in @natyaheals_neha, continued my Mohiniyattom practice with @upahaardance and Shalini aunty, attended numerous workshops even if they meant 5am wake ups for 15 days straight! Highlights were the astounding Navarasa Sadana workshop by @natanakairali and Venu G sir, a beautiful look into Radha and Ashtapadis with @vidhyasubramanian_art Akka and breaking down a Javeli with @ramavaidyanathan ma’am too. 📚
2. Work that matters - In April, after recovering from Covid, I started volunteering on a national project in Covid testing; this turned into a full-time role in June and the project evolved into a biotech start-up called Covid Testing Network. Over the last 8 months, we were on a mission to convert as many labs across the UK as possible into Covid testing labs to supplement the UK government’s (lack-lustre) efforts. We’re close to completing 600,000 tests for the general population now, including care homes and compromised communities like rough-sleepers and sex workers. This job gave me purpose this year, and I’m so grateful for it. Check us out / DM me if you have any Qs on Covid testing - www.covid19-testing.org. 👩‍💻
3. A taste of online ‘live’ performances - one of which was a super special duet concert with @chiinthusarvan, getting over 8K views! 🌟
4. Collaborated and created - thanks to @indianragalondon and @indianraga, I got to work with some of my favourite dancers (@chiinthusarvan @prani_c @anayavasudha_dance @ashwini.dance @oxanacosmicdance) [Continued in Comments]
