Paulo Rubio / @gn_funkertactical seminar last weekend! Thank you Jarrad Arbuckle and ASD Concepts / @asd.concepts for bringing him out to LA. I was presented with the opportunity to work a little with him. Great teaching, clear and clean methodology to onboard new concepts ideas and skills. I Highly recommend catching him in your area if you can!#Armorupselfprotection #gn_funkertactical #asd.concepts #christopherhicks_coaching #h2kkapap

One of the highlights from last weekend’s knife workshop with Paulo Rubio @gn_funkertactical was learning “The Russian Drill”.

At first glance, it looks like a simple flow drill, but beneath the surface it develops a wide range of skills: disarms, clears, traps, empty-hand strikes, transitions, and the ability to adapt under pressure.

One of the things I appreciate most about GN’s approach is how he builds a drill, breaks it down into its individual components, then gamifies it to explore the different energies and possibilities within it. What begins as a smooth, technical exchange quickly transforms into something much more raw, competitive, and unpredictable as pressure is introduced.

That’s where the real learning happens.

A huge thank you to GN for sharing his knowledge, and to everyone who came out and put in the work. Looking forward to the next one.

Honored to be inducted as the Tai Chi and Qi Gong Specialist of the Year by the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame 2026 in Costa Mesa! This year marks the 50th anniversary of the organization, making it the oldest martial arts organization ever created in the USA. It also coincides with the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution. A huge shoutout to Jim Thomas for his award and contributions. I participated in incredible seminars, exchanging contacts with other martial arts teachers, opening opportunities for future cooperation, and planning to visit their schools for joint events. I shared this milestone with my beautiful wife, Baya, reconnected with old friends, and celebrated a magical evening. God bless America! #MartialArts #HallOfFame #TaiChi #Gratitude #2026 CostaMesa USConstitution250”

Yesterday was a surreal moment, the dojo that I grew up in @houseofchampionsvannuys turned 30. In 1998 my parents @spicewc and @crosbygregory put me into my first karate class with the man who would become my dojo dad @mark.parra.houseofchampions . Sensei Mark I am the man I am because of you ,because of the influential men and women you had take a part in raising me .You pushed me and my brothers @senseitrike @rob.rodriguez619 @itsestradabros.to our limits to realize we aren’t just champions of the ring but of the heart, and most importantly you reminded us … that when you fall 7 times you get up 8 more . Congratulations on 30 years Sensei Mark I am honored to be a part of your legacy.
