Maryland, this is where we say goodbye.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve you as Miss Montgomery County 2026 and to show up for you as Alaysia, in all the roles I have been honored to carry.

I moved to Maryland shortly after learning that my life would look different than I had ever imagined, as I prepared to navigate life without my brother. I arrived feeling overwhelmingly lost, broken, and confused, trying to find my footing in a world that suddenly looked so different.

Little did I know Maryland would give me some of the greatest gifts of my life: community, purpose, and the courage to find and use my voice again.

As I lay this chapter to rest, I do so with a heart full of gratitude. Leaving this role with a President’s Volunteer Service Award, two proclamations, a Governor’s Citation, and two recognitions from Montgomery County Government is an honor I will never take lightly. But these recognitions will never compare to knowing that I helped make life a little brighter for our smallest humans. That will always be the accomplishment I hold closest to my heart.

Serving you has never felt like hard work, because this has always been heart work. Every conversation and every little life I have had the privilege of touching has reminded me why this work matters and why I will never stop showing up.

As I prepare to leave for Basic Military Training, I do so knowing that while I may no longer serve you with a crown, my commitment to serving others remains unchanged; it simply takes on a new form.

MoCo, thank you for holding me while I found myself. Thank you for allowing me to turn pain into purpose, experiences into advocacy, and my voice into something bigger than myself. Thank you for trusting me to represent you, love on your families, and champion the little ones who deserve every opportunity to thrive.

The crown was a privilege, but the people were always the purpose.

Always and forever, your biggest cheerleader, loudest advocate, and, I hope, your beacon of hope,

Several of our newest murals were even created as part of the 2026 @national_mural_awards hosted right here in Hagerstown.

📍Inside Meritus Park, 50 West Baltimore St

Damien painted this mural as part of this year’s @hagerfest for the @flyingboxcars , a minor league baseball team in Hagerstown, MD. The team is named after the nickname for the Fairchild C-82, a military cargo plane that was built in Hagerstown in the 40s and 50s seen in the left portion of the mural.

These photos are kind of sucky, but it’s a tough one to photograph cause it’s crazy long plus that brutal shadow covering half of it. But you get the gist.

I’d like to thank Shawn, a very kind woman who works at the stadium attending to the plants and other aesthetics, who unlocked the gate for me.

With all of my medical art projects currently being reviewed in the hands of clients, I decided to take a mental health day on Friday, threw the bike on the back of the car, and headed west to Hagerstown. I had two objectives. 1. Photograph the new 2026 @hagerfest murals and 2. Take a 30 mile bike ride from Hagerstown to Williamsport along the C&O Canal Path, and back to Hagerstown for a mid-afternoon “linner” at the @schmankerlstubehagerstownmd .

I accomplished all that on a beautiful day. One of the new murals was this spectacular one by Christian Stanley adorning the corner of a parking garage. But the bonus was coming across some of the earlier painted murals around downtown such as the beautiful one in pics 4 and 5 by Leonardo Moleiro.

WOW! What an awesome start to May. From kicking it all day at Hagerfest @hagerfest to our very first Ohio class at @immigrantsonbrewery igrant son

One of our favorite things about Beer and Ballet is getting to meet people everywhere we go and creating spaces where everyone is welcome to move, connect, and try something new. Thank you all for showing up and contributing to this beautiful Beer and Ballet community.

An unforgettable weekend at the @national_mural_awards and @hagerfest in Maryland. The Goodness Tour cofounders Jeremiah and Benjamin proudly represented the crew while jumping into local arts programming, including this incredible live collaboration painted across the side of a mobile graffiti RV owned by legendary graffiti artist and cultural ambassador @bookofjedidiah .

We proudly carried the spirit of the Pacific Palisades with us and continue to celebrate the community for welcoming us in to create a collaborative mural alongside @teammollyofficial @wckitchen and @vistapaint. This award belongs to everyone who picked up a brush, shared a story, or showed up with heart. This includes the incredible @1440multiversity , without their generous support and belief in our mission, this project would not have been possible. Much love and happy Tuesday!

14 new murals. One transformed downtown experience🎨✨

Over the past two weeks, artists from across the country brought new energy, color, and creativity to #downtownhagerstown through the 2026 National Mural Awards and Hagerfest Music & Art Festival.

From alleyways and building walls to the Cultural Trail and Meritus Park, these murals now tell stories, spark conversation, and create new moments of discovery throughout the Arts & Entertainment District.

What was once a blank wall is now a destination, a photo opportunity, a landmark, and a reminder that public art has the power to transform spaces and bring people together.

Thank you to every artist, property owner, sponsor, volunteer, partner, and community member who helped make this vision possible. Downtown Hagerstown continues to evolve as a place where creativity lives out loud💛

Four and a half days of painting condensed down to under a minute.

The plan was for six days of painting but we were rained out for a day and a half over the course of it all. Festivals are always a bit of a sprint!
