Hey there Lawrence - This message comes with a lot of heart from Austin and Josh

Like so many of you, we were deeply saddened by the closing of Jungle House. It was more than a plant shop, it was a space built with care, creativity, and a genuine love for this community. We had the privilege of building a relationship with the Guffeys over time, and their impact is something we truly respect and admire. We always have and always will look up to these incredible people.

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been working closely with them to thoughtfully pass the torch on what was created at the corner of Mass & 7th: Rachel and Jhami prioritized their want for preserving jobs and the community they have built. We want to continue that legacy.

Community has always been at the core of what we do. Our motto, “Community over Competition,” isn’t just something we say, it’s something we actively live out. We are deeply passionate about supporting local artists, makers, and creating safe, welcoming spaces for everyone who walks through our doors.

With that, we want to share that we will be opening Mass Street Plant Co, a sister shop to our Kansas City location, West Bottoms Plant Company on May 2nd!

This page will be rebranding to Mass Street Plant Company by 4/22 and Soft open 5/2 to honor the general strike.

Let me tell you about a place called Squishington’s.
Two years ago, my life was totally torn apart. I came back to Lawrence broke and broken-hearted after several lonely years in Germany. The thing I needed most was a sense of purpose and direction; something that fell neatly into my lap when my friends Jhami and Rachel offered me a job at the candy shop they’d just opened.

Squishington’s was more than just a business. There was magic there — I know that sounds cheesy, but that’s the only word I have to describe it. This was a place where grandparents could reach their surly teenage grandkids, because suddenly they could connect over a sweet they’d never tried, but that the grandparents remembered fondly. A place that gave anyone who crossed the threshold a chance to try something new, regardless of whether or not they planned to buy anything. From the coziness of Lawrence, you could still taste a specialty from Turkey or Spain or Sweden or Thailand. It was an invitation to break out of the mundane in an accessible way. It strove to be a place that a kid could enter with a dollar and make out like a bandit - not many places like this exist anymore. Nostalgia and novelty were represented on those shelves in equal measure, serving as many people in Lawrence as possible.

Over that counter, I got the chance to change people’s minds about black licorice, share interesting candy history, hear people’s memories about childhood candy they thought was definitely gone. Customers became regulars whose tastes I got to know. Sometimes I felt like a DJ, but for candy - I could say “hey! If you liked that, wait until you get a load of *this*!” I loved that job. I loved the people. I loved the chance to connect over the most universal of human tastes: sweetness.

What happened at Squishington’s was wonderful. That will never go away. I am gonna hold it in my heart and my mind forever. It was and is special to me. Goodbye and thank you, Squishington’s.

Jungle House has kicked off the holidays with a fabulous western themed installation they’re calling “Giddy Up, Jingle Horse!”

In years past Jungle House has turned the store into winter wonderland, “Jingle House!” This year, they’ve gone country and turned their holiday affair up to 11. You won’t want to miss this bright pink desert themed spectacle.

I had so much fun roping in the @extraordinaire.media team to work in collaboration with everyone at Jungle House. Together, we fine-tuned every last detail of their holiday kick-off party.

Giddy Up, is a mandatory stop on your next trip downtown. You’re gonna love it!

Snakehound turns 4 today! To celebrate, it is with great joy we start a long string of announcements, starting with the solidification of our lineup.

On drums, we welcome back our original drummer and resident artist Jacob Artillery.

On vocals, we welcome the most passionate vocalist in the area Joshua Ricley.

Together, these two have worked together to craft deep and impactful lyrics to share with you all, further pushing our goal to provide honesty in music and songwriting. We can’t wait to come back to you with more good news.
