Due to popular demand we have another video from the Pannonica Jazz Orchestra debut concert at The Rex - this one featuring trombonist/arranger extraordinaire Selena Savage! #jazzintoronto

Historically significant evening at The Rex: the debut performance by The Pannonica Jazz Orchestra. This multi-generational, all-female ensemble performed music composed and arranged by women including charts by Maria Schneider, Nancy Walker, Chelsea McBride, Atcheleh Aryee, Celine Tchang and Selena Savage to name a few. Led by Angela Pincente, the group was formed with support from Colleen Allen. Much more to come from the very exciting group! #jazzintoronto

This was my first attempt at arranging for a band of this size: 9 horns, rhythm section and vocals. I spent months listening to Jack Wall's recording and charting 13 different parts. Despite the immense challenge, this band was a pleasure to work with---taking it upon themselves to correct any errors in my charts, giving me arrangement tips and showing up on time with their parts ready!

A little “L-O-V-E” w/ @tabbswingofficial ❤️
Written by Bert Kaempfert and Milt Gabler
Arranged by Ralph Carmichael

Despite the fact that I lost my voice the morning of this performance, it might be my favourite recording of it.

I can’t remember the last time I was so scared to go on stage because I had no idea how I was going to sound. The reason I love this recording isn’t particularly because of my singing, it’s because the band had my back the entire time.

As my Summer with the Toronto All Star Big Band comes to a close, I reflect on how lucky I am to have worked with such amazing and supportive musicians. Phenomenal dancers too I might add.

The first song of my upcoming debut record is officially out. Stream it everywhere.

It’s been a long year of ups and downs, and making a record takes a lot out of you in all sorts of ways. Despite everything, to come out with a collection of music that you admire, and feel represents your sound the way it begins in your head, is such a rewarding feeling.

Also, to have such lovely people working hard with you, is without question a necessity for making such a thing happen.

Here are the lovely people in question

Mixed and engineered by @saintclarens
Mastered by @reubenghose
Co-produced by @kira.kulha and myself
Project advisor @dreamlands_mastering
Advice from @tomion3000

Keyboards by @bmcwebb
Violin by @gwynnedaynard
Cello by @nievacunningham

Big appreciation to @drdangermcnabb for being the man behind the scenes in the Gordon Wragg Recording studios, he makes things happen with a big smile.

To all those involved, thank you so very much. I appreciate you infinitely, and you are all such amazing folks to work with. To many more recordings.❤️

Why did my band willingly put themselves in danger?

Idk… I guess you will have to come to my final recital April 1st at 7:00 to find out ;)

I had attempted to cross post this between two accounts which made this post un-sharable! So I am beyond thrilled to finally (re)announce my final recital!

For those who don’t know me I’ve been a huge fan of the Eurovision Song Contest for many years now. So for my final recital I am bringing a little bit of the Eurovision craziness to you (for free) at Humber’s Lakeshore Campus on April 1 at 7:00 pm!

This project would not even be possible without my amazing band:

Rhythm section:
@olivia_purnell1
@arthur_samuel.m
@gage_hibbins
@ethanthomas.mp3
@sumnerdang
@aidan_p_munroe

Vocals:
@mjcully
@namratha.music
@rosie.m.d
@spookyamiee
@la_di_da_linda
@kendralyttle_

Horns:
@hailey.ik
@g_fitz_g
@dorian__purchase
@_joeyyy525

Poster illustrated by me! Graphic design from @karenj.jansen and @christinesees

Come on by and MAKE SOME NOISE!!! Young blonde woman with hands on either side of mouth shouting “make some noise” with additional text saying “Wednesday April 1, Thea Person Final recital, Humber Lakeshore | 3199 Lakeshore Blvd | HCH Recital Hall A 109.”

THE END!
My final recital is over. So relieved, so grateful. What a privilege. Anyways, I put so much time into this program but didn't print enough! Please take a look and read it. It's a love letter to my support people, my band and the music.
