I used to be a painter
I sketched and imagined what could be
And out of everything I painted, I drew me
And you, and any face that I could see

I studied how their eyes looked
The shape, the depth and color intrigued me
I got lost in the light and the beauty
As I painted her the color set her free

Now I paint with light
A camera showing more than what you see
I paint you in detail oh so carefully
Because seeing you brings happiness to me

——

Felt like a little poem today, but I really was a painter. And it shapes so much of how I photograph you. Because when I look at you I truly SEE. I notice the way your features fit together, how the light catches your irises and brings to life the color in your eyes. I notice your real smile, not just the one you’ve practiced in the mirror. Photographing brides is one of my favorite parts of a wedding day. One that I view as an immense privilege and gift. Because I get to see you and the details that make you who you are.

Some photographers tear up during the ceremony. But me? I’m sitting here with tears running down my face thinking of being able to photograph the simple beauty that is you. Those simple portraits before you get married are my favorite part of the wedding day. And I can’t wait to photograph you 💛
