"Italy Through the Lens: Duomos, Basilicas, Cathedrals Oh My!" by Hailey Francom Ciao from Siena! I've spent some time these past eight weeks exploring different cities, and the heart of every city is its duomo (cathedral). Every basilica and duomo I've visited is full of rich history and gorgeous architecture. While I have been slowly immersing myself into Catholicism, I mostly go to explore, photograph, and learn the story behind each city. Swipe through to see some beautiful pictures I've taken with some fun facts! Duomo di Siena: This gorgeous cathedral was almost the largest in the entire Christian world. It grew and grew until halted by the Black Death of 1348. All that remains of the newest construction are the panorama (a must-see!) and the pillars enclosed to create the museum. Saint Peter's Basilica: Did you know that the majority of the paintings that you can find inside the basilica are actually mosaics full of little tiles? Can you imagine how tedious that was? Duomo di Firenze: The dome was built between 1420 and 1436, by Brunelleschi. It's a masterpiece, and remains the largest masonry and brick-and-mortar dome ever built! Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi: This basilica is actually made up of two separate churches! The lower church can get very humid with all the people, but the stunning frescoes make it worth it! The upper church is full of stories from both the New and Old Testaments, and the legend of Saint Francis himself! #iesabroadsiena #hopeoffcampus #siena #hopecollege

Thank you for everything! YMCA Michigan Youth in Government has been the greatest gift of my life, and has always given me something to look forward to each day as I slog through homework 😜. The extraordinary experiences, unexpected lifelong friendships, and uncountable inside jokes are something that I will treasure for the rest of my life. Over the past four years, MYIG has helped me gain confidence in myself through making me feel heard, seen, and respected even when I was brand-new in the program. It has made me realize the adults value our opinions and want us to speak up and bring change for a better tomorrow. I’m beyond grateful to have been provided with such a unique platform that connects me with valuable resources that have empowered me to make a meaningful impact in my community and beyond. Thank you @novi_myig for being the biggest supporters and making each conference a memorable experience! Thank you WolffPack (@kariswolff @sruthi_ka.j @shanerf927) for being such an inspiration in my MYIG journey. I’m so glad that we bonded so quickly and are the best of friends.
