Ballet dancers are often told to avoid lifting weights🚫🏋️‍♀️🩰
But here’s the reality:
Ballet is built on single-leg strength. 💥🦵Every jump, landing, and turn demands force production, control, and stability on one leg. ⬆️🩰⬇️
Yet most dancers spend thousands of hours training technique ⏳🩰 without ever progressively building that strength. 💪
Exercises like barbell lunges(demonstrated here by @haileyflanagan_ ) develop:• stronger takeoffs for jumps 🚀• more stable landings 🛬• better hip and knee control 🦵⚙️• greater injury resilience
Strength training doesn’t make dancers bulky. 🚫📦It makes them more powerful, more stable, and more durable on stage. ⚡🩰💪
If you’re a dancer who wants to train smarter 🧠 without guessing what to do…
DM me “TRAIN” 📩 and I’ll help you get setup with our Dancer Training APP that takes all the guesswork out of dancer strength training. 🎯📱💪 Were you ever told dancers shouldn’t lift heavy weights? 🏋️‍♀️🚫🩰
Or did your school actually encourage strength training? I’m curious 👇

The single-leg RDL exercise has been clinically proven to increase muscle forces in the gluteus minimus, glute medius, and glute maximus. (Collins et al 2023)

For dancers, our glutes are essential to enhancing our technique by providing the stability and power necessary to gracefully perform our movement. Yet, it is quite common for dancers to struggle with glute activation. Having one exercise that can get the job done for all 3 glutes is super valuable in terms of exercise selection, especially for those who are balancing busy schedules.

Interested in learning more? Check out this study below for an in-depth breakdown on 8 different exercises for glute max, med, and min muscle forces and their effectiveness. ⬇️
